Campgrounds and RV parks near McCreary, MB

McCreary sits along Highway 5 on the eastern edge of the Manitoba Escarpment, positioning it as a practical base for trips into Riding Mountain National Park, a protected area of roughly 3,000 square kilometres that sits atop the escarpment in sharp contrast to the surrounding prairie farmland. The park is a few hours northwest of Winnipeg and is most easily reached by Highway 10, which passes through it. Campgrounds near McCreary split into two systems. Inside the national park, Parks Canada operates Wasagaming Campground in the townsite and smaller outlying sites including Whirlpool Lake Campground. Outside the park, provincial and private options include Rainbow Beach Provincial Park on Dauphin Lake, Onanole RV Park and Campground just south of the park gate, and Sporty's RV Park and Restaurant/Pizzeria. The south entrance is at the townsite of Wasagaming, which is the only commercial centre within the park boundaries, so most RV renters staying in the McCreary area use it for groceries, fuel, and dump-station access.

Riding Mountain sites are booked through the Parks Canada Reservation Service. The reservation launch typically falls in late January, with bookings made online or by phone at 1-877-737-3783. All front-country reservations through the Parks Canada system are site-specific, so the exact site is chosen at booking, not on arrival. Some outlying campgrounds around the park operate on a first-come, first-served basis; call the park at 204-848-7275 for current status, including Whirlpool Lake Campground. Rainbow Beach Provincial Park and other Manitoba provincial sites are booked through manitobaparks.com or 1-888-482-2267, with reservation launch dates released each spring. Onanole RV Park and Sporty's RV Park handle their own reservations directly through their own websites.
