Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Basile, NB

The New Brunswick Botanical Garden is located in the Saint-Jacques neighbourhood of Edmundston, situated on 7 hectares next to the Madawaska River, with more than 80,000 plants, making it the largest arboretum east of Montreal. The garden includes 12 thematic gardens on more than 8 hectares of land along the Madawaska River, along with a medicinal and aromatic plant garden, an herbalist shop, and a celestial garden called Khronos. Seasonal events include the fall festival La Grande Grouille, where thousands of pumpkins light up the garden's paths. Provincial Park de la Republique adds scenic hiking and cycling trails, two volleyball courts, a tennis and pickleball court, a boat ramp, a picnic shelter, and a heated swimming pool, plus an amphitheatre that hosts summer shows. The Petit Temis linear trail connects Edmundston to Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, and is popular for cycling in summer and snowmobiling in winter. Mont Farlagne offers skiing and snowboarding in winter and mountain biking and hiking in warmer months. Downtown Edmundston has restaurants and a growing craft brewery scene.

The camping season in northwestern New Brunswick is short and concentrated in the warmer months. Booking early is recommended, especially during peak season from May to September. Most private campgrounds in the Edmundston area follow a similar pattern, opening in May and closing by mid-October once overnight temperatures drop and services shut down for winter. July and August bring the warmest, driest weather and the highest demand, particularly on weekends and around Canadian and American summer holidays. Reservations are highly recommended for RV and tent stays between June and October each year. Early-season travellers should watch for lingering cool nights and blackfly activity in wooded sites. Fall brings foliage colour through late September and early October, and the Botanical Garden hosts the La Grande Grouille pumpkin festival. Winter closes most campgrounds, and provincial park camping shuts down for the season.

The region is bilingual and predominantly French-speaking, though English is widely used at tourist sites, campgrounds, and along the Trans-Canada. Signage on provincial roads and at Parks NB facilities appears in both languages. Provincial Park de la Republique offers a mix of non-serviced, electrical, and full-service sites, plus cabins, Ch-A-Lets, and rustic shelters, so RV renters should confirm which loop matches their rig. Terrain is largely rolling river valley with wooded lots and some open sites; interior roads at the provincial park and larger private grounds handle standard rental motorhomes and travel trailers without difficulty. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Edmundston and the Trans-Canada corridor. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are available in Edmundston, and the border crossings to Quebec and Maine are within a short drive.
