Campgrounds and RV parks near Inuvik, NT

Inuvik sits above the Arctic Circle at the end of the Dempster Highway, in the Mackenzie Delta of the Northwest Territories. It is the third-largest community in the territory and the largest north of the Arctic Circle, which makes it the main service hub for RV travellers finishing the drive up from Dawson City or continuing to Tuktoyaktuk on the all-season highway. Camping options close to town are limited but well-suited to RVs. Jak Territorial Park sits just outside Inuvik on Highway 8 and functions as the primary serviced campground for the area, with a mix of powered and non-powered sites, showers, potable water, and a staffed information point. Further south along the Dempster, Gwich'in Territorial Park runs two campgrounds, Gwichin Territorial Campground and Vadzaih Van Tshik - Gwichin Territorial Park, both set within the same park on and near Campbell Lake, roughly 36 kilometres from Inuvik. Because the region is remote, most travellers plan Inuvik as the northern anchor of a longer Dempster Highway loop rather than a standalone destination. Fuel, groceries, and RV supplies are best stocked in town before heading further out.

Territorial campgrounds in the NWT are managed through NWT Parks. Reservations for the upcoming season open in March through nwtparks.ca, and campers need to create an account on the site before booking. Phone reservations are also available through the NWT Parks call centre. The campgrounds inside Gwich'in Territorial Park work differently. Both Gwichin Territorial Campground and Vadzaih Van Tshik - Gwichin Territorial Park are first-come, first-served with self-registration on site, as the park has no internet access. Jak Territorial Park accepts online reservations through nwtparks.ca. Because site counts are small and cell coverage is limited outside town, arrive with a backup plan and confirm ferry status on the Peel and Mackenzie rivers before committing to a night south of Inuvik.
