Campgrounds near Amherst, Quebec
Amherst sits in the Laurentides region of Quebec, roughly 25 kilometres southwest of the town of Mont-Tremblant and within easy reach of Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, a provincial park managed by SEPAQ that lies north of the town of Mont-Tremblant and the villages of Saint-Donat and Saint-Côme. The park is Quebec's oldest provincial park and covers more than 1,500 square kilometres of forest, rivers, and lakes, making it the anchor for most camping trips in the area.
RV travellers based in Amherst have a mix of private campgrounds and SEPAQ-run sites within a short drive. Camping Parc La Conception and Camping La Montagne Dargent sit just outside Amherst in La Conception, while Camping De La Diable and Camping Chutes aux Iroquois put campers closer to the Diable sector of the national park and the Rivière du Diable. Camping Au Petit Lac Simon, south of Amherst in the Outaouais, rounds out the options for families looking for beach access and full-service sites away from the busier Tremblant corridor.
Things to do near Amherst
The national park is the main draw, with extensive hiking trails and a network of more than 400 lakes and streams. Summer activities include canoeing, kayaking, standup paddleboarding, via ferrata on the Vache Noire cliff at the Diable sector entrance, and fishing. SEPAQ rents canoes and kayaks at several rental points inside the park, so families staying at Camping De La Diable or Camping Chutes aux Iroquois can paddle without hauling their own boats. South of Amherst, the Lac-Simon area offers a long sandy beach, clear water, and multi-use trails for walking and cycling, a good base for the day if camping at Camping Au Petit Lac Simon. The park has also been designated a dark-sky preserve, making stargazing a worthwhile evening activity from any nearby campground.

The core RV season runs from mid-May through late October. The Diable sector of Parc national du Mont-Tremblant typically operates from mid-May to early November, and other sectors follow a similar mid-May to mid-October window. Most private campgrounds around La Conception and the Outaouais open with the May long weekend and close after Canadian Thanksgiving.
Summer is the busiest stretch by a wide margin. Given the park's proximity to Montreal and Ottawa, Mont-Tremblant area campsites fill quickly, particularly through the last week of June, July, and early August, when walk-up sites are rare. September brings cooler nights and fall colour through the maples and birches, usually peaking in the last week of September and the first week of October. Winter camping options are limited. The park stays open year-round for activities, but rustic winter camping is available only by reservation, and travel on the park's lakes is prohibited in winter for safety reasons.

Booking campgrounds near Amherst
SEPAQ campgrounds inside Parc national du Mont-Tremblant must be booked online or by phone. Bookings for the upcoming summer season at SEPAQ national parks and tourist establishments open over a two-day launch in early November, and popular lakeside sites in the Diable sector go quickly for July and August weekends. SEPAQ also recommends buying park access in advance: purchasing the right of access online guarantees entry, smooths arrival, and avoids unnecessary travel when capacity is reached. It can be purchased up to 30 days before a visit.
Private campgrounds such as Camping Parc La Conception, Camping La Montagne Dargent, and Camping Au Petit Lac Simon take reservations directly through their own websites. For winter stays in the park, rustic winter camping is available by reservation only through the SEPAQ Customer Relations Centre at 1-800-665-6527.
What to expect at Amherst campgrounds
Expect a mix of rustic and serviced sites. In the Diable sector, more than 600 rustic campsites or sites without individual services, 85 sites with two services, and 39 sites with three services are spread around Lac Monroe, Lac Chat, and Lac Escalier, so RV travellers looking for full hookups should filter carefully when booking. Private operators near Amherst lean more family-oriented and typically offer beach access, seasonal sites, and cabin or yurt rentals alongside transient pitches. Cell service is patchy once inside the park and on back roads near smaller lakes. Dogs are not allowed inside Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, which is important to know before booking if travelling with a pet. Several private campgrounds in the area do welcome dogs on leash.

You can book your Amherst RV trip with confidence because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy. After that window, refund eligibility depends on how close you are to your trip start date and on qualifying circumstances. The full cancellation policy is available in the RVezy Help Center, and the support team is available if plans change. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Amherst RV rental?
Yes, dogs are welcome on many pet-friendly RV rentals in Amherst. Tick the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see listings where pets are explicitly allowed (some hosts charge a small cleaning fee, shown upfront). Amherst is great for dog owners: Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, about 40 minutes north, allows leashed dogs in designated areas, and the quiet back roads around Saint-Remi-d'Amherst are perfect for morning walks. Many local Laurentides campgrounds also welcome pets. Pro tip: message the host through the listing before booking to confirm your dog's size and breed.
sepaq.com/pq/motCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Amherst?
Yes, RV delivery in Amherst is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to driving a motorhome. Many local hosts will tow the trailer or drive the RV directly to your campsite at Parc national du Mont-Tremblant or a private lakeside lot near Lac-des-Plages, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this, along with their per-kilometre rate. It is the ultimate first-time RV rental experience in Amherst: you arrive, they hand you the keys, and your trip starts stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Amherst%2C%20QuebecHow far can I drive on an Amherst RV trip?
Plenty far. Most Amherst hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (commonly 150 to 200 km per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a sprawling Quebec road trip. From Amherst you're roughly 30 km from Mont-Tremblant village, 130 km to Ottawa, 150 km to Montreal, 250 km to Quebec City, and about 200 km to the gorgeous Outaouais region. Each listing shows its mileage policy clearly before you book, with a small per-kilometre fee if you exceed the limit. Pro tip: map your route in advance and message the host, many will bump up the included mileage for longer adventures.
quebec511.info/en/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Amherst, QC?
You have plenty of great options for RV camping near Amherst. Top picks include Parc national du Mont-Tremblant (about 40 minutes north, with serviced sites at Lac-Monroe and excellent paddling), Camping Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts on Lac des Sables (about 35 minutes south, family-friendly with a beach), and Camping Tremblant near the resort village for full hookups. For a more rustic experience, Reserve faunique Rouge-Matawin offers off-grid sites. Book SEPAQ sites through the official sepaq.com reservation system, ideally three to four months ahead for July and August weekends. Local tip: the Lac-Monroe sector has some of the best sunset views in the park.
sepaq.com/pq/motWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Amherst?
Late June through early October is prime time for an Amherst RV trip. July and August bring warm days of 22 to 27°C, perfect lake-swimming weather at Lac de l'Argile and Lac-des-Plages, and cool 12 to 15°C nights ideal for campfires. September is the local secret: the Laurentian forests explode in red and gold from late September into early October, crowds thin out, and rates drop. Spring (May to mid-June) is quieter but bring bug spray for blackflies. Winter rentals are available from select hosts, with snowy trails and Mont-Tremblant skiing minutes away. Pro tip: book the last weekend of September for unforgettable peak foliage.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/index_e.htmlI'm a first-time RV renter. Will I be okay driving around Amherst?
You'll do great. Amherst sits in a peaceful corner of the Laurentides, and most roads (Route 323, Chemin des Lacs, Montée Bondy) are wide, well-maintained, and lightly trafficked, ideal for first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup: how to level, hook up water and power, dump tanks, run the awning, and operate the propane. They'll also share their phone number in case you have questions on the road. Class B campervans and small travel trailers are the easiest to handle if you're nervous. Pro tip: do a short practice loop on quieter side roads before heading toward Mont-Tremblant's hillier terrain.
saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/road-safety/behaviours/driving-other-vehiclesWhat if I break down during my Amherst RV trip?
You are covered. Every RV rental in Amherst booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, or mechanical issue on Route 117 or inside Mont-Tremblant park does not have to ruin your trip. One phone call dispatches help to your location, whether you are at Lac-Saint-Victor or on a back road near La Conception. Your host is also available by message or phone for quick troubleshooting, since things like a tripped breaker or a finicky propane fridge are often a fast fix. Tip: save the RVezy roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before leaving the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Amherst RV rental across provinces or to the US?
Many hosts allow interprovincial travel, so an RV road trip from Amherst into Ontario (Ottawa is about 1.5 hours away) or the Eastern Townships is very doable. US travel into Vermont, New Hampshire, or New York is permitted by some hosts when confirmed in advance, since insurance and protection coverage need to extend across the border. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm your route. Popular cross-border favourites from Amherst include Lake Placid, Burlington VT, and the Adirondacks loop.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an Amherst RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier expenses to plan. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle's economy by 30 to 40 percent; Class B campervans average 11 to 13 L/100 km, Class C motorhomes 18 to 22 L/100 km, and Class A units 25 to 30 L/100 km. Gas in the Laurentides typically runs a few cents higher than Montreal, so fill up in Saint-Jovite or Mont-Tremblant village before heading deeper into the region, the closest stations to Amherst are along Route 323 and Route 117. For a weekend hitting Mont-Tremblant and back, budget roughly $80 to $180 CAD in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy works well across Quebec for live prices.
rncan.gc.ca/energy-efficiency/transportation-alternative-fuels/fuel-consumption-guide/21002How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Amherst?
Book early and you'll never be disappointed. SEPAQ opens reservations for Parc national du Mont-Tremblant and other Quebec national parks in January through the official sepaq.com portal, and the best lakeside sites at Lac-Monroe and Lac-Chat are gone within hours for July and August weekends. For private campgrounds around Amherst and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, aim for three months ahead in peak summer and one month ahead for September foliage trips. Long weekends like Saint-Jean-Baptiste (June 24) and Canada Day fill up fastest. Pro tip: if you strike out on weekends, Sunday-to-Thursday stays are wide open and let you enjoy the lakes without the crowds.
sepaq.com/reservation/index.dot?language_id=1What are driving conditions like around Amherst?
Driving around Amherst is enjoyable. Route 323 is a scenic two-lane road winding through forests and past lakes, with gentle hills and far less traffic than Autoroute 15. Watch for white-tailed deer and moose at dawn and dusk and slow down on gravel side roads that lead to lakeside campsites. In Quebec, winter tires are legally required from December 1 to March 15, and most hosts include them on winter rentals. Spring can bring potholes after thaw, which the municipality fixes quickly. Pro tip: check quebec511.info before you leave for live road conditions, construction, and closures across the region.
quebec511.info/en/default.aspxWhat amenities do campgrounds near Amherst offer?
You'll find everything you need. Most campgrounds around Amherst, from SEPAQ's Parc national du Mont-Tremblant to private parks like Camping Tremblant and Camping Sainte-Agathe, offer a mix of full-service sites (30-amp electric, water, sewer), partial-service (electric and water), and rustic sites. Dump stations and potable water fills are standard at park entrances, and most also have shared showers, laundry, Wi-Fi near the office, playgrounds, and beach access on the bigger lakes. For boondocking, Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin offers true off-grid sites with no hookups, perfect if your motorhome rental in Amherst has a generator and full freshwater tank. Pro tip: top up water before leaving Mont-Tremblant village, fills are free and easy at most stations.
sepaq.com/pq/mot/services.dot?language_id=1What's included inside an Amherst RV rental?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped these rigs are. A typical campervan rental in Amherst or motorhome rental in Amherst comes with a real bed (or two), kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor or outdoor shower, a private toilet, dining area, heating and air conditioning, and seatbelts for every passenger. Most include cookware, dishes, linens, and outdoor chairs, ask the host through the listing to confirm. Larger Class A and Class C units often add a TV, awning, solar, and onboard generator for off-grid camping at spots like Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin. Wi-Fi depends on cell signal, which is solid in Amherst village but spotty deep in the parks. Pro tip: download offline maps before you go.
tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/motor-vehicle-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Amherst RV?
Hosts in Amherst offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include bike racks ($25 to $50), kayak or paddleboard rentals (perfect for Lac de l'Argile), generators for off-grid stays, propane firepits, BBQs, linen and kitchen packages, and even pre-stocked groceries. Delivery and setup is the most popular option, with rates based on distance from the host's location. Pickup is typically between 1 and 4 PM, drop-off by 11 AM, though many hosts flex this if asked. Mileage policies vary: some include 100 km per day, others offer unlimited. All add-ons and fees are listed transparently on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a bike rack for a hands-free arrival into Mont-Tremblant.
bonjourquebec.com/en-ca/How does payment and the security deposit work for an Amherst RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Amherst, you pay through RVezy's protected checkout using a major credit card, never cash or e-transfer with the host. The booking total covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons you select. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. The deposit amount is shown on each listing. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off; it protects everyone and keeps deposit returns smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Amherst during the winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Amherst are available from select hosts and can be a memorable experience. Look for four-season units with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and shore-power hookups, ideal for skiing at Mont-Tremblant about 30 minutes away or ice fishing on Lac-des-Plages. January and February daytime highs are typically around -10 C with overnight lows that can drop below -20 C, so book a winter-ready listing (filter or message the host to confirm) and plan to stay at a campground with year-round serviced sites. Pro tip: bring extra propane and a heated water hose; your host will walk you through cold-weather setup at pickup.
