Campgrounds and RV parks near Beaulac-Garthby, QC

Lake Aylmer is the centre of activity, supporting boating, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing from the shore and docks. The area is also home to vélorails, pedal-powered rail bikes that travel a converted railway through the countryside, an activity unique in Quebec. At Parc national de Frontenac, visitors find sandy shores, rolling forests, more than 200 bird species, 30 mammal species, and a thousand-year-old bog, with hiking trails, calm-water paddling, and fishing on offer. Moose are especially present in the Southern sector, and white-tailed deer are often seen throughout the park. Mont Adstock, about half an hour away, adds hiking in summer and skiing in winter, and the Mont-Mégantic observatory is within reach for evening stargazing.

The camping season around Beaulac-Garthby is short and tied to the SÉPAQ calendar. At Parc national de Frontenac, access roads are open from May to October, and the gates close at the end of October. The Saint-Daniel sector campgrounds, including Baie aux Rats Musques, typically operate from mid-May to mid-October. The Secteur Sud, which includes Camping Baie Sauvage, follows a similar window. Private campgrounds on Lake Aylmer generally open in mid-to-late May and close in early October. July and August are peak season, with warm lake water, the longest daylight hours, and the highest demand for waterfront sites. June can be wet and buggy, with the wettest monthly average of the year. September brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and early fall colour through the Appalaches hills. The park is technically accessible year-round, but in fall and winter no services are available on site and visitors are entirely on their own. Ice fishing is locally popular on Lake Aylmer when conditions allow, but RV camping effectively ends with the first hard freeze.

Expect quiet, wooded sites and a strong lake focus rather than resort-style amenities. The Saint-Daniel sector campgrounds offer three loops with either no services or two services (water and electricity), and odd-numbered sites at Baie aux Rats Musques have direct water access, useful for light boats. Several sites offer views of Grand lac Saint-François, and many wooded campsites can accommodate larger RVs. Roads within the park leading to activities and services are gravel, and there is no single road linking the sectors, so provincial highways must be used to travel between them. Cell coverage is patchy in the forested zones. Private campgrounds along Lake Aylmer tend to offer fuller hookups, on-site beaches, and family amenities, while SÉPAQ sites lean toward a more rustic, nature-first experience.
