Campgrounds and RV parks near Buckingham, QC

The Lievre River and nearby Lac Simon support paddling, swimming and shoreline fishing in summer. Gatineau Park has supervised beaches at Philippe Lake, Meech Lake and La Pêche Lake, with canoe and kayak rentals at Philippe and La Pêche, plus a dense network of hiking and cycling trails. The park is also the region's signature fall-foliage destination, with mid-October weekends drawing heavy traffic. South of the Ottawa River, downtown Ottawa is roughly a half-hour drive and offers the Rideau Canal, ByWard Market and the Canadian Museum of Nature, along with the Canadian Museum of History on the Gatineau side, for rainy-day plans. Quebec requires a provincial fishing licence, available online or at authorized retailers, before casting a line on inland lakes.

The camping season in the Outaouais runs roughly from the May long weekend through Canadian Thanksgiving in early October, with private parks setting their own opening and closing dates within that window. Peak demand falls between Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canada Day on July 1, and the August civic holiday weekend, when reservations book up quickly. July is the warmest and sunniest month, with average highs in the mid-20s Celsius and the longest daylight of the year. June tends to be the wettest summer month and brings the heaviest blackfly and mosquito pressure, easing by late July. Early autumn is the sweet spot for cooler nights, lower bug counts and thinner crowds, with the exception of mid-October fall-colour weekends when Gatineau Park sees dense visitation. Winter shuts most private campgrounds, and roads in many private parks are not maintained for RV access; a limited number of Gatineau Park winter sites operate for tent and ready-to-camp stays.

Private campgrounds in the Buckingham and greater Gatineau area generally offer a mix of serviced RV sites with electricity, water and 30-amp hookups, plus unserviced tent sites and some cabin or ready-to-camp rentals. Common amenities include showers, flush toilets, dump stations, laundry, pools or beaches, and convenience stores. Sites with full sewer hookups are less common than electric-and-water sites, so confirm hookup type at booking. Cell coverage is reliable in town and along Route 50 but can drop in Gatineau Park and on backroads north of Buckingham. Bring bug spray for late spring and early summer. Open-fire restrictions can be imposed by SOPFEU during dry summer stretches, so check current conditions before arrival.
