Campgrounds and RV parks near Chénéville, QC

Lac Simon is the regional centrepiece for swimming, paddling, and fishing. The Sépaq beach stretches roughly two kilometres along clear water with fine, warm sand, and the lake supports a range of water sports. Anglers can target several species under a Quebec provincial fishing licence. Plaisance Provincial Park, on a network of islands and peninsulas in the Ottawa River, is a noted birdwatching destination, with extensive wetlands and a cycling path linking the Thurso and Presqu'îles sectors. Parc Oméga, a drive-through wildlife park near Montebello, is a strong draw for families. Hiking trails, canoe and kayak rentals, and guided discovery activities are available through both Sépaq sites, and Lac de la Ferme at Lac-Simon offers quieter paddling.

Summer is the core RV season. Sépaq sites at Lac Simon and Plaisance see their heaviest demand from late June through Labour Day, with serviced sites filling weeks in advance for weekends. Spring brings unpredictable weather: snow can linger into April, the ground stays soft, and many private campgrounds open around mid-May. Centre touristique du Lac-Simon typically opens its camping season in mid-May and runs into mid-October. Plaisance has a particularly compressed shoulder season. From mid-October to the end of April, the registration buildings and washrooms are closed and the trails are not groomed, and only the Discovery and Visitors Centre parking lot remains open. Fall is excellent for quieter visits, with bug pressure dropping and hardwood colour peaking in early October across the Outaouais hills. In winter, white-tailed deer frequent the Lac Simon area, and the site offers cross-country skiing, tubing, skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, though RV camping itself is limited. Black flies and mosquitoes are heaviest from late May through June.

Sites in this region range from rustic, unserviced tent pads to RV pads with two- or three-service hookups, the latter including water, electricity, and sewer. Plaisance offers sites without services as well as sites with water and electricity, plus prêt-à-camper units. Roads into Sépaq campgrounds are paved or hard-packed gravel and are generally manageable for larger Class A and Class C rigs, though some interior loops have tight turns and overhanging branches. Cell coverage is reliable around Chénéville and the main highways but spotty in park interiors. French is the dominant language, and most staff at major campgrounds also speak English. Quiet hours are enforced, dog rules vary by sector, and campfires are permitted only in provided rings outside of active burn bans. Bring bug spray and a water plan for fill-ups.
