Campgrounds and RV parks near Duhamel, QC

Lac Simon is the main draw. The beach at Centre touristique du Lac-Simon runs roughly two kilometres of fine sand with supervised swimming in summer, and the lake supports canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and fishing for speckled trout, lake trout, brown bullhead, and yellow perch. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards can be rented on site, and motorboats are permitted on Lac Simon. Inside the Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle, more than 60 kilometres of easy and intermediate hiking trails are open from May through October, fishing is available on more than 700 lakes and rivers, and an observation tower at Lac Lanthier is set up for viewing ducks and white-tailed deer.

Camping season in the Duhamel area is short and well defined. Most private and Sépaq campgrounds open in mid-May and close in mid-October, with peak demand concentrated between Quebec's Saint-Jean-Baptiste holiday in late June and Labour Day weekend in early September. The Lac Joinville campground inside Papineau-Labelle runs roughly from late May through mid-September, and access roads inside the reserve are unpaved and slow, with about an hour of rough dirt road from the nearest entrance. July and August deliver the warmest swimming temperatures and the busiest beaches; waterfront sites at Centre touristique du Lac-Simon fill weeks in advance for weekends. Late spring brings black flies and mosquitoes, especially in the forest interior of Papineau-Labelle. September offers cool nights, fewer bugs, and early fall colour through the Laurentian and Outaouais hills. Centre touristique du Lac-Simon also operates a winter season for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling, but most other area campgrounds close after Thanksgiving.

Expect a mix of large, full-service RV parks and rustic wildlife-reserve campgrounds. Centre touristique du Lac-Simon has semi-serviced sites, sites with two services, and sites with three services on 30 amp, along with ready-to-camp tents and cabins, a long sandy beach, a giant trampoline, climbing rock, slides, a convenience store, and a dump station. Dogs are allowed only on designated sites. The Lac Joinville campground inside Papineau-Labelle is tent-oriented and rustic, with a sanitary block, non-potable water, a dump station, fire pits and picnic tables at each site, and rough gravel access roads. Cell coverage is patchy once you leave Duhamel village. Black flies peak in late spring; bring repellent.
