Campgrounds and RV parks near La Pocatière, QC

The Route Verte cycle network and Route 132 follow the river through Kamouraska's heritage villages, making for easy day rides and scenic drives. Birding is excellent on the tidal flats, with snow geese passing through in spring and fall migrations. La Pocatière is home to the Musée François-Pilote, a regional ethnology museum that gives families an indoor option on rainy days. Whale-watching boats run out of Rivière-du-Loup, about 45 minutes east, with regular fin, minke, and beluga sightings in summer. Hikers can head inland to the Appalachian foothills for backcountry trails, while the artisan village of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, a short drive west, is the regional centre for wood carving and crafts.

The private campground season here is short and clearly defined. Camping Riviere-Ouelle operates from early May to mid-October, and Camping De La Demi-Lieue in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli runs from mid-May to mid-October. Outside those windows, services like water hookups, dump stations, and pools are shut down because of freezing risk. July and August are peak season. Weekends fill quickly, especially riverside sites with sunset views, and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste long weekend in late June and Canada Day weekend mark the start of the busy stretch. Heated outdoor pools at riverside campgrounds typically operate from late June to early September, so families travelling in shoulder months should expect pools and some activity programming to be closed. Spring camping starts cool and damp, with overnight frost possible into mid-May. September brings fewer crowds, strong birding, and fall colour through the Appalachian backcountry, but nights turn cold quickly. Winter is not a viable RV season at private campgrounds in this corridor.

Campgrounds along this stretch of the St. Lawrence are predominantly French-speaking, though staff at the larger operations handle English bookings without issue. Sites range from full-service 30 and 50 amp pull-throughs to basic tent pads. Camping De La Demi-Lieue offers a heated pool, wading pool, playgrounds, trampoline, and inflatable games. Tides on the estuary are significant, so riverside sites can feel exposed to wind. Mosquitoes and blackflies peak in late May and June, then ease through July. Cell coverage is reliable along the Route 132 corridor but spotty in the inland forest zones.
