Campgrounds and RV parks near Les Escoumins, QC

The headline attraction is the Marine Environment Discovery Centre in Les Escoumins, which offers snorkelling and scuba diving, plus observation areas for seals, seabirds, and whales within the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park. Visitors can also hear divers and biologists describe the subarctic underwater ecosystem during seasonal programs. Scuba and snorkel charters work the same shoreline. Zodiac whale-watching cruises depart from the Les Escoumins harbour and from nearby Tadoussac, with minke, fin, beluga, and occasionally blue whales seen in the estuary. Other activities include Parc des Chutes on the Escoumins River, a coastal bike path connecting Les Escoumins with Grandes-Bergeronnes, blueberry picking in late summer, and the ferry crossing to Trois-Pistoles, which itself often produces whale sightings mid-channel.

The camping season in this part of the Côte-Nord is short and tightly tied to the calendar. Camping Paradis Marin operates from May 15 to October 10, and most other area campgrounds, including Camping Bon-Desir, follow a similar mid-May to mid-October window. An RV trip in late April or early November will find facilities, dump stations, and most reservation offices shut. June through August is peak season. Whale-watching cruises run on full schedules, the marine park interpretation programs are staffed, and weekends at popular shoreline campgrounds book out well in advance. July is the warmest month, with average highs around twenty-one degrees Celsius and lows near thirteen, and nights often feel cooler because of the cold estuary water. Late August into September is a strong shoulder window: blue and fin whales are still feeding offshore, bugs ease off, and bookings loosen. Route 138 is the only through road on the North Shore, and it carries every RV, truck, and ferry-bound car heading east. Camping Paradis Marin accepts recreational vehicles over 35 feet, but several smaller sites in the area have tight interior roads and limited turning room. Confirm site length when booking if travelling in a Class A or with a long fifth wheel. The estuary is cold year-round, so even in July evenings turn chilly and fog can roll in quickly. Pack layers, rain gear, and bug protection for early summer. Cell coverage is generally reliable in the villages and along Route 138 but can thin out at shoreline campsites. French is the working language; staff at tourist-facing campgrounds typically speak some English.
