Cyclists have hundreds of kilometres of paved multi-use paths on both sides of the river, including the Capital Pathway network and the Voyageurs Pathway. Gatineau Park offers swimming beaches at Philippe Lake, hiking to Pink Lake and the Eardley Escarpment lookouts, and canoe rentals. Early autumn brings cooler nights and lighter crowds, with one exception: mid-October weekends draw heavy day-use traffic for fall colour viewing in Gatineau Park. On weekends with good weather, the southern sector of the park closest to Ottawa and Gatineau often reaches capacity, with intermittent road closures and full parking lots, particularly around Meech Lake and Old Chelsea. Winter shuts most RV grounds, though Gatineau Park keeps ready-to-camp cabins, yurts and four-season tents open, accessible only by ski or snowshoe.

Sites near the city tend to be wooded and moderately close together rather than wide open. Wesley Clover Park Campground sits within the National Capital Greenbelt with access to multi-use trails that connect toward downtown. Full hookups, including sewer, are not universal in the area, so RV travellers needing septic should confirm at booking. Camping Cantley is one of the closer grounds offering full-service sites alongside amenities such as pools, a playground and gated entry. Mosquitoes and blackflies peak from late May into early July near wooded and wetland sites, so bring repellent. Both English and French are widely spoken on the Quebec side, and the Outaouais uses the Eastern time zone, matching Ottawa.
