Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs, QC

The signature activity is hiking the Acropole-des-Draveurs trail, a steep climb to panoramic views above the Malbaie River valley inside Haute Gorges de la Riviere Malbaie. The trail is normally accessible between the second Friday of June and the Monday of Thanksgiving weekend, subject to trail conditions. Cruise and boat excursions, cycling, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding are popular along the river. At Pied des Monts - Grande Jardins Provincial Park, hikers tackle Mont du lac des Cygnes for taiga-like scenery rare this far south, and the park is a renowned fishing spot offering native trout exclusively. Outside the parks, Camping Chutes Fraser sits next to its namesake waterfall, and the wider Charlevoix region offers whale-watching cruises at Baie-Sainte-Catherine and farm stops along the regional Flavour Trail.

The camping season in this part of Charlevoix is short. SEPAQ camping at Haute Gorges de la Riviere Malbaie typically runs from mid-May to mid-October, and Pied des Monts - Grande Jardins Provincial Park follows a similar window, with the Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes sector opening in mid-May and the Arthabaska sector opening at the end of May. Ready-to-camp at Grands-Jardins runs roughly June to mid-October, depending on the sector. Early and late season carry caveats. Campsites in the Arthabaska sector are offered as rustic camping at the start and end of the summer season, and the Pied-des-Monts sector is rustic at the start of the season; when an area is offered as rustic camping, sanitary services and water points are not available, dry toilets are provided, and visitors must bring their own water. July and August are peak: trails, river shuttles, and serviced sites fill quickly. September brings cool nights and strong fall colour through the Charlevoix hills. Winter camping is authorized at Le Pin-Blanc and L'Équerre, accessible on snowshoes or backcountry skis, while private campgrounds along the coast generally shut down between mid-October and May.

Expect a remote feel once past the village. Cell service is unreliable inside the park; free wireless internet is provided at the Félix-Antoine-Savard Discovery and Visitors Centre and the Draveur Visitors Centre. A shuttle service runs between the two visitor centres during summer to limit vehicle traffic on the park road. Inside the park, most sites are semi-serviced with washroom facilities and showers, with a limited number of sites offering one service (electricity), and rustic options at L'Équerre have pit toilets only. Private campgrounds closer to La Malbaie offer the full-hookup setups, laundry, and dump stations that larger RVs typically need. French is the working language; English is widely understood at visitor centres.
