Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Arsène, QC

The St. Lawrence estuary is the main draw. Sea kayaking lets visitors observe seals and shoreline cliffs at Parc national du Bic, roughly an hour east of Saint-Arsène. Cyclists can ride the Petit Témis interprovincial linear trail, which passes near Camping Lido and runs between Rivière-du-Loup and Edmundston. The ferry from Rivière-du-Loup to Saint-Siméon crosses the estuary to Charlevoix, while a drive up the north shore reaches Tadoussac for whale-watching cruises. From late spring through October, Cap-de-Bon-Désir is one of the best shore-based sites to watch St. Lawrence whales, with belugas, minke whales, and harbour seals frequently sighted. Boat trips to Île aux Lièvres and the Pèlerins archipelago depart from Rivière-du-Loup.

The camping season along the Lower St. Lawrence is short. Most private and provincial campgrounds open in mid-May and close in mid-October. Camping Bon-Desir runs from mid-May to mid-October, and Camping Paradis Marin operates from mid-May to early October. Similar dates apply to Camping Lido, Camping Chez Jean, and Camping Le Rayon De Soleil, which all run on a seasonal calendar bracketed by the May long weekend and Canadian Thanksgiving. July and August are peak season. The best months to camp near Rivière-du-Loup are June through August, when sites along the water fill quickly and weekend reservations should be locked in well in advance. June is cooler and quieter, with longer daylight and active bird migration. September brings shoulder-season availability, cool nights, and strong whale activity at Cap-de-Bon-Désir. Winter closes essentially all private campgrounds in the area; Parc national du Bic stays open year-round for day use and limited winter camping, though full RV services are not available.

Expect a mix of full-service RV parks near the highway and rustic shoreline campgrounds with limited hookups. Camping Lido accommodates short- and long-term stays with pull-through sites that include hydro, water, and sewer connections, and amenities including 15, 30, and 50 amp electricity, laundry, propane, a heated pool, a playground, and a sanitary block. Some travellers note road noise from the nearby highway. Across the river, Camping Bon-Desir is set on terraced grounds above the water, and sites near the interior ponds are more secluded than river-view sites. Camping Paradis Marin has more basic facilities focused on shoreline whale viewing. Cell coverage is reliable near Rivière-du-Loup but spotty in marine park sectors. Bring layers: evenings on the estuary are cool even in mid-summer, and onshore winds can be strong.
