Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Charles-de-Bourget, QC

The Véloroute des Bleuets is a long-distance cycling loop that circles Lac Saint-Jean, and a bike path runs through Pointe Taillon Provincial Park along one of its most scenic shoreline sections. Most lakeside campgrounds rent bikes or sit directly on the route. Swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and sandy beaches are central to a summer stay, and Pointe Taillon itself is a flat sandy peninsula with long beaches facing Lac Saint-Jean. Families with kids will find pools, splash pads, a marina, and pedal boats at Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre. Wildlife watching, including beavers, moose, and birds in the park's peat bog, rounds out a typical trip.

The camping season in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region is short and concentrated. At Pointe Taillon Provincial Park, the main Pointe-Taillon sector campground typically operates from late May until mid-October, with July and August the warmest and busiest months. The newer Camp-de-Touage-Les-Îles sector, which offers some sites with water and electricity, opens earlier in mid-April. Private parks generally run from late May into mid-September, with Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre opening its campground in late May. July and August bring warm days, swimmable lake temperatures, and the region's blueberry harvest, which is also when the Véloroute des Bleuets sees its heaviest traffic. June can still be cool and buggy, with blackflies and mosquitoes peaking in early summer. September delivers cooler nights, fall colour along the Saguenay River, and far thinner crowds. From late October through April, most campgrounds close, although Dam-en-Terre operates as a year-round resort with winter activities including a 1.5 km illuminated ice trail through its campground streets and access to nearby snowmobile and snowshoe networks.

Expect a mix of full-service RV resorts and rustic provincial-park sites. Dam-en-Terre offers 235 developed sites for tents, trailers, and motorhomes, with hookups, showers, laundry, a beach, marina, and on-site food service. Pointe Taillon's main sector offers about 70 unserviced campsites geared toward family, waterside, and nature-focused camping, while the Camp-de-Touage-Les-Îles sector adds sites with water and electricity. Some of the park's rustic sites are accessible only by bike, on foot, or by water, which limits options for larger rigs in those sectors. French is the working language across the region, though staff at major parks generally handle English. Cell coverage is reliable near Alma and along Route 169 but thins out in the more remote shoreline sectors.
