Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Hilarion, QC

The headline outdoor draw is Parc national des Grands-Jardins, reachable via Route 381 from Saint-Urbain. The park's trail network crosses taiga, boreal forest, tundra and mountain vegetation, with Mont du Lac-des-Cygnes offering a view of the Charlevoix meteorite crater and the Vallée du Gros-Bras. Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie, also run by SEPAQ, lies to the east and adds river-valley hiking and paddling. In the village itself, Parc de l'Amical has playgrounds, a bike path and sports fields in summer and skating, cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails in winter. Camping Le Genevrier near Baie-Saint-Paul adds on-site lake swimming, mini-golf, kayaking, pedal boats and mountain-bike trails for travellers staying with kids.

The usable RV season in Charlevoix runs from mid-May to mid-October. SEPAQ campgrounds inside Parc national des Grands-Jardins follow this window, and the Pied-des-Monts sector is offered as rustic camping in the early part of the season, meaning sanitary services and water points are not provided and dry toilets stand in until full services come online. Camping Le Genevrier near Baie-Saint-Paul runs its main camping rate season from mid-June through mid-October, with a shoulder rate period continuing into early autumn. July and August are the peak weeks. Weekends linked to Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Canada Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving carry minimum-stay rules at several private parks and book out earliest. September brings cool nights, fewer bugs and fall colour in the Laurentian foothills, which makes shoulder-season trips popular for couples. Winter camping is authorized at Pied-des-Monts and Étang Malbaie inside Grands-Jardins, but access is on snowshoes or backcountry skis from the parking lot, not by RV.

Charlevoix is hilly. Approaches on Route 138 and Route 381 include steep grades and tight curves, and larger Class A motorhomes should confirm site length and turning room before booking, particularly inside SEPAQ sectors built for tent trailers and mid-size RVs. Cell coverage is uneven in the back country, and Wi-Fi at private campgrounds is usually limited to the reception building. Dogs are allowed inside Parc national des Grands-Jardins only at the Pied-des-Monts campground, and other pets remain prohibited. Drones are not permitted at SEPAQ establishments. Expect cool evenings even in July, black flies and mosquitoes in early summer, and a high chance of fog and rain on shoulder-season mornings. Bring layers, bug protection and levelling blocks.
