Camping near Saint-Honoré, Quebec
Saint-Honoré sits at the foot of the Monts-Valin, about ten minutes north of the city of Saguenay in Quebec's Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. The village is a practical base for RV travellers exploring the fjord, Lac Saint-Jean, and the boreal high country. It lies roughly midway between Tadoussac and Saint-Félicien, with direct access to local ZECs for fishing and outfitting, plus connections to the regional snowmobile and ATV trail networks.
RV options nearby range from full-service private resorts to rustic park sites. Camping Plage Margot and Camping Au Jardin De Mon Pere are among the closest established grounds, while Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre on Lac Saint-Jean and Camping Belley toward La Baie add larger family-oriented sites with beaches and marinas. For travellers willing to drive into Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, the Baie Eternite - Saguanay Provincial Park campground sits beside the fjord with a mix of serviced and unserviced sites plus ready-to-camp Huttopia tents.
Things to do around Saint-Honoré
Parc national des Monts-Valin, headquartered in nearby Saint-Fulgence, offers hiking, canoeing on the Valin River, fishing for speckled trout, and in winter the snow-laden Vallée des Fantômes for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing. South of the village, the Baie-Éternité sector of Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay is the hub for fjord hiking, sea kayaking, and a guided via ferrata with three circuits on the cliffs above the bay. Lac Saint-Jean, reachable in under an hour, adds long sand beaches, the Véloroute des Bleuets cycling loop, and the Saint-Félicien wildlife zoo. Closer in, the Microbrasserie Saint-Honoré pours local beers, and the area links into ZEC trails for fishing and ATV riding.

The RV-friendly season in this part of Quebec is short and intense. Most private campgrounds and the SEPAQ campsites at Baie-Éternité open in mid-May and close in mid-October, with the Baie-Éternité campground operating roughly from May 15 through October 11. July and August are the peak window, when temperatures are most comfortable, fjord water activities are in full swing, and family sites at Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre and Camping Plage Margot fill quickly on weekends.
Late June and early September offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier reservations. Black flies and mosquitoes are heavy from late May into early July, so screen rooms help. Fall colour peaks from late September into early October. Winter shuts the campgrounds, but Parc national des Monts-Valin stays open year-round for cabin stays, snowshoeing, and backcountry skiing from mid-December into late March.

How to book
Sites inside the Quebec national parks are managed by SEPAQ. Reservations for Baie-Éternité in Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay and for the campgrounds in Parc national des Monts-Valin are made online through sepaq.com or by phone at 1-800-665-6527. SEPAQ opens summer camping reservations in early November for the following season, and popular waterfront sites go quickly. A park entry fee or an annual SEPAQ network card applies on top of the site rate. Backcountry travel in the fjord park requires a separate access permit.
Private grounds such as Camping Plage Margot, Camping Au Jardin De Mon Pere, Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre, and Camping Belley take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For July and August stays, especially waterfront or full-hookup sites, book several months ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the area are paved and RV-friendly along Route 172 and the approaches to Saguenay, with Route 170 leading to Rivière-Éternité for the fjord park. Access roads to some SEPAQ sectors and ZEC outposts turn to gravel, so check rig clearance and length limits before committing to a backcountry campground. Baie-Éternité sites are forested and quiet, with sanitary blocks, water taps, and a mix of unserviced and two-service (water and electricity) sites suited to tents, truck campers, and mid-size travel trailers.
Cell coverage is reliable in Saint-Honoré and along the main routes but drops inside the parks. Groceries, fuel, propane, and an SAQ outlet are available in the village and in nearby Chicoutimi. Most park staff speak some English, but signage and on-site notices are primarily in French.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Saint-Honoré, QC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Saint-Honoré, QC?
Good news: an RV rental in Saint-Honoré is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. On RVezy, towable trailers in the area typically average around $120 CAD per night, while motorhomes run closer to $200 CAD per night. Many hosts offer 10-20% weekly or monthly discounts, which makes a longer Saint-Honoré RV trip even cheaper. To find a cheap RV rental in Saint-Honoré, filter by your dates, sort by price, and book mid-week stays in June or September when demand softens. Pro tip: traveling outside the July Quebec construction holidays (last two weeks of July) can save you noticeably on nightly rates.
tourismesaglac.com/en/What license do I need to rent an RV in Saint-Honoré?
Great news: your regular Class 5 Quebec driver's licence (or its equivalent from another province, state, or country) is all you need to rent an RV in Saint-Honoré. No special motorhome endorsement or commercial licence is required for the Class B, Class C, travel trailers, and fifth wheels you'll find on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence. That's it, you're ready to head out toward Lac Saint-Jean or the Saguenay Fjord with confidence.
saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/drivers-licences/obtaining-licence/class-5-passenger-vehicleIs my RV rental in Saint-Honoré protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Saint-Honoré, QC booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, giving you peace of mind whether you are parked at Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay or driving Route 175 back toward Quebec City. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, so you, not the host, decide on coverage. Pro tip: review the roadside assistance details before departure and save the support number to your phone for the rare just-in-case moment.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Saint-Honoré RV booking?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates without stress. After that, your refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel, with extenuating circumstances considered separately. The full cancellation details are shown clearly during checkout before you confirm. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Saint-Honoré rentals for summer, knowing you have that initial grace window to adjust if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Saint-Honoré RV trip?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Saint-Honoré, and the Saguenay region is genuinely dog-welcoming. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings that welcome your pup. Once you're on the road, dogs are allowed on leash at many SEPAQ parks including parts of Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, and trails around Lac Saint-Jean's Véloroute des Bleuets are great for sniff-walks. Note that the Baie-Sainte-Marguerite sector restricts dogs, so plan your hikes accordingly. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed; most are happy to share their favorite local off-leash beaches near Saint-Ambroise.
sepaq.com/np/saf/index.dot?language_id=1Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Saint-Honoré?
Yes, RV delivery in Saint-Honoré is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV to your chosen campground, such as Camping Jonquière or Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. This is perfect if you are flying into Bagotville Airport (YBG), which is a short drive from Saint-Honoré, so you can skip towing entirely. Delivery fees are set by each host based on distance. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery to see hosts offering this service, then message to confirm your campground address.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saint-Honore%2C%20QuebecHow far can I drive from Saint-Honoré on a typical RV rental?
You can cover a lot of ground from Saint-Honoré thanks to its central spot in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. Most hosts include a daily kilometer allowance (commonly 200 km per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer loops. Popular drives include Tadoussac for whale watching (about 130 km, 1h45), Quebec City via Route 175 (about 215 km, 2h45), Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie (about 200 km, 2h30), and circling Lac Saint-Jean (about 230 km, 3h30). Pro tip: when you message hosts, ask about their mileage policy upfront so you can choose a listing that matches your planned route.
transports.gouv.qc.ca/en/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the best campgrounds near Saint-Honoré, QC?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Saint-Honoré. A few favorites: Camping Jonquière offers full hookups about 25 minutes south and is family-friendly with a pool; Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay (Baie-Éternité sector) gives jaw-dropping fjord cliff views about 90 minutes east; Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon on Lac Saint-Jean features sandy beaches and the Camp-de-Touage-Les-Îles serviced loop; and Camping Belley near Alma is a beach-lover's pick. For something close, Camping Au Jardin de Mon Père is just minutes from town. Pro tip: SEPAQ park sites open for reservation each spring and the prime fjord-view loops sell out fast, so book early.
sepaq.com/index.dot?language_id=1When is the best time to visit Saint-Honoré in an RV?
Mid-June through mid-September is the sweet spot for a Saint-Honoré RV trip, with daytime highs averaging 20-25°C and comfortable nights around 10-14°C. July is the warmest month and best for swimming at Lac Saint-Jean's sandy beaches. Late August and early September bring fewer mosquitoes and the first hints of fall color along the fjord, which many locals consider the magic window. Winters here are genuinely cold (January averages near -14°C) and most campgrounds close, but a few four-season hosts offer winter rentals for snowmobiling adventures on the famous Trans-Quebec Trail 23. Pro tip: avoid late July if you want quieter campgrounds, since that's Quebec's busiest construction holiday.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/index_e.htmlI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Saint-Honoré?
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV is easier than people expect, especially in Saint-Honoré where roads are wide, flat, and traffic is light compared to big cities. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, propane, holding tanks, and the basics of dumping. You can ask as many questions as you need, and your host is reachable throughout the trip if something comes up. Highway 172 and Route 175 are well-maintained and RV-friendly. Pro tip: practice a few right and left turns in an empty lot before heading north toward the fjord, and stick with a smaller Class C or campervan rental in Saint-Honoré for your first outing.
quebec511.info/en/Default.aspxWhat if I break down during my Saint-Honoré RV trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Route 172 near Sainte-Rose-du-Nord or a dead battery at a Lac Saint-Jean campground is a phone call away from help. Your host is also your direct support line for anything specific to their RV, and RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Cell coverage is solid in populated areas of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean but can get spotty in deeper backcountry zones around the fjord. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before leaving, and download offline maps of the region in case you wander into a signal dead zone.
quebec511.info/en/Default.aspxCan I take a Saint-Honoré RV rental into the United States or other provinces?
Yes, many hosts allow cross-border and inter-provincial trips, so a Saint-Honoré to Maine coast adventure or a swing through Ontario is absolutely possible. Travel into the United States requires the host's approval and confirmation that insurance extends across the border, so message the host directly from the listing page before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular RV road trips from Saint-Honoré include Tadoussac and the Côte-Nord, Quebec City and Île d'Orléans, and the Charlevoix loop. Pro tip: bring your passport and the vehicle ownership documents the host provides, and carry written trip permission for a smooth border crossing at Armstrong or Woburn.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Saint-Honoré RV trip?
Fuel is very manageable when you plan ahead. Most Class C motorhomes around Saint-Honoré average 18-22 L/100km, campervans closer to 12-15 L/100km, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas prices in the Saguenay region typically run a few cents below Montreal averages, with stations in Chicoutimi, Jonquière, and along Boulevard Martel offering the best prices. For a 500 km loop around Lac Saint-Jean in a Class C, budget roughly $150-$200 CAD in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Saguenay before heading north on Route 172 toward the fjord, since stations become much sparser past Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, and use the GasBuddy app to spot the best local prices.
www2.gouv.qc.ca/entreprises/portail/quebec/services?lang=enHow far in advance should I book a campground near Saint-Honoré?
For the best campgrounds near Saint-Honoré, aim to book 2-4 months ahead for July and August stays. SEPAQ (Société des établissements de plein air du Québec) opens reservations for its national parks, including Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay and Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, in early spring through reservations.sepaq.ca, and prime waterfront sites can vanish within hours. Private campgrounds like Camping Jonquière and Camping Belley typically take direct bookings via their websites and have more last-minute flexibility. Pro tip: if you are booking late, target weekday arrivals and look at sites in Saint-Fulgence or Saint-Félix-d'Otis, where availability is often better than headline destinations.
