Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Magloire, QC

Outdoor activity centres on Parc régional du Massif du Sud, which offers a 71-kilometre trail network for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and an hebertism course in summer. Winter activities include snowshoeing, classic cross-country skiing, ski touring, ski-snowshoeing on Hok skis, and fat biking, with on-site equipment rentals. The Mont Saint-Magloire summit and the Crête des grives and mont Chocolat ridges are regional landmarks. Lac Etchemin draws families for swimming, paddling, and shore fishing. Day trips reach Montmagny on the St. Lawrence for the Isle-aux-Grues archipelago and the Grosse Île and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site. Quebec City is roughly 90 minutes by road for urban sightseeing.

Camping in the Saint-Magloire highlands is firmly a warm-season activity. Most private campgrounds in Chaudière-Appalaches operate from mid-May through mid-October. Camping Lac-Etchemin, for example, typically opens in early May and closes in mid-October, with discounted rates before mid-June and after early September. Parc du Massif du Sud campsites usually open in mid-May and close at the end of October. Summer is peak: families fill sites from late June through Labour Day weekend, and weekends in July and August often sell out at the more popular sites. A two-night minimum applies at Massif du Sud on high-season weekends, holiday weekends, and during the Quebec construction holiday in late July. Early autumn brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and foliage colour through the Notre-Dame Mountains. Winter brings deep snow at elevation, and Parc du Massif du Sud keeps a small winter camping sector open while almost all private RV campgrounds are closed.

Campgrounds in this corner of Chaudière-Appalaches are smaller and more rustic than urban-fringe parks. Sites at Parc du Massif du Sud are wooded, screened from neighbours, and most sit close to a watercourse. Pit toilets serve individual sites, with flush toilets and showers at the Desjardins pavilion. Big-rig drivers should check site length before booking, since the park caps RV length at 30 feet including the tow vehicle, and the Peupliers sector is restricted to 25 feet. Pull-through sites at Camping Lac-Etchemin are limited to numbered spots 31 to 40 and 127 to 129. Cell coverage is patchy in the highlands and along forest roads. Bring layers even in July, since nights at elevation run cool, and expect French-first service at smaller family-run sites.
