Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Modeste, QC

Rivière-du-Loup is the main service and activity hub. Parc des Chutes offers waterfall trails and lookouts near downtown, and the city is a departure point for whale-watching cruises and the ferry to Saint-Siméon on the north shore. The Petit Témis linear park, a former rail bed, runs from Rivière-du-Loup south to Edmundston and is a major draw for cyclists staying in the area. Île aux Lièvres, reached by boat from Rivière-du-Loup, has hiking trails, beaches, and seabird viewing. Families crossing to the Côte-Nord can visit the Cap-de-Bon-Désir Interpretation and Observation Centre in Les Bergeronnes, where minke, fin, and beluga whales are regularly spotted from shore between May and October.

The Saint-Modeste camping season is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds in the Rivière-du-Loup area open in mid-May and close in early to mid-October, tracking frost dates on the lower St. Lawrence. Camping Bon-Desir in Les Bergeronnes, for example, operates from May 15 to October 12. July and August are the peak booking months: school holidays in Quebec and Ontario fill riverside and whale-watching sites first, often weeks in advance. Late June through early September offers the most reliable warm weather, with daytime highs typically in the low twenties Celsius and cool nights. Spring is wet and slow to warm, and black flies are active in late May and June inland. September brings cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and strong fall colours through the Bas-Saint-Laurent hills. Whale activity in the St. Lawrence estuary peaks from July into October. Winter closes most private campgrounds; only a handful in the region offer winter storage or limited cold-season access.

Sites in the Saint-Modeste and Rivière-du-Loup area range from open, level pull-throughs aimed at transient RVers to terraced riverside pitches with limited services. Camping Lido is widely used as a Trans-Canada stopover with pull-through sites and standard service hookups. Whale-coast campgrounds like Camping Bon-Desir trade extensive hookups for views: terraced sites overlook the estuary, with a community hall, showers, and a convenience store on site. Cell coverage is generally good near Rivière-du-Loup and along Route 138 but can drop in interior valleys. French is the working language; staff at larger campgrounds typically speak some English as well.
