Camping near Saint-Nazaire, Quebec
Saint-Nazaire is a small municipality in the Lac-Saint-Jean-Est region of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, positioned a short drive north-east of Alma and within easy reach of the north shore of Lac Saint-Jean. The area functions as a practical base for RV travellers exploring the lake, the Véloroute des Bleuets cycling route, and the Péribonka River corridor.
Campground options around Saint-Nazaire range from full-service private resorts to rustic provincial-park sites. Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre, on the Alma side of the lake, offers serviced RV sites alongside cottages and a marina. Camping Belley and Camping Plage Margot sit close to Lac Saint-Jean and cater to families seeking beach access. Coop Camping Chambord, on the lake's south-west shore, is a cooperative-run campground with serviced sites. Pointe Taillon Provincial Park, administered by Sépaq, protects a 97.5 square kilometre sand peninsula on the north shore and is a draw for cyclists and paddlers. Most non-park campgrounds accept standard RV lengths; rustic Sépaq sites have limited access and no hookups.
Things to do around Saint-Nazaire
The Véloroute des Bleuets, a paved cycling loop around Lac Saint-Jean, connects with the cycling network inside Pointe Taillon Provincial Park, where roughly 16 kilometres of the park's 45-kilometre path link directly to the route. Swimming, paddleboarding, and sea-kayaking on the lake are central summer activities, and long sandy beaches operate within the park's Pointe-Taillon sector, with swimming at visitors' own risk. A nautical shuttle links Péribonka to the park for cyclists and hikers. Wildlife watching is productive across the peninsula, which crosses a large peat bog and supports birds, beavers, and moose. Off-water options include the agritourism circuit around Saint-Nazaire's boreal eco-district and day trips to Alma for groceries, fuel, and laundromats.

The Saint-Nazaire camping season is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds operate from late May or early June through mid-October, while camping at Pointe Taillon Provincial Park runs from mid-June to mid-October. Peak demand falls in July and August, which coincide with the Quebec construction holiday and the warmest, longest days. Lakeside sites at Camping Belley, Camping Plage Margot, and the Pointe Taillon Provincial Park beach sectors typically book out for weekends and the construction-holiday window well in advance.
Late June and early September are the easier shoulder weeks for RV travellers who want availability and cooler nights. Black flies and mosquitoes peak from late May through late June; bring repellent and screened shelters. Winter brings deep snow and frigid temperatures across the Lac-Saint-Jean basin, and most campgrounds close, though the park stays open for backcountry skiing on the bike path from mid-December to early April depending on snow conditions. Reservations for the following summer at Sépaq parks generally open in mid-November.

How to book campgrounds near Saint-Nazaire
Pointe Taillon Provincial Park is operated by Sépaq, Quebec's provincial-parks agency. Reservations are made online through sepaq.com or by phone at 1-800-665-6527, and bookings for the upcoming summer in Sépaq national parks open in mid-November of the previous year. A separate park-access fee applies and must be purchased online before arrival; Parks Canada passes are not valid. Rustic backcountry sites on Connelly Island, Beemer Island, and Petite île Verte must be booked by phone rather than online. Private campgrounds such as Complexe Touristique De La Dam-En-Terre, Camping Belley, Camping Plage Margot, and Coop Camping Chambord take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone, and many open booking calendars in winter.
What RV travellers can expect
French is the working language throughout Saint-Nazaire and the wider Lac-Saint-Jean region; basic French phrases help at smaller campgrounds and stores, though staff at larger sites and Sépaq parks generally manage in English. Cell coverage is reliable around Alma and along Route 169 but drops in the interior of Pointe Taillon Provincial Park. Serviced RV sites with 30-amp power, water, and sewer are standard at the larger private campgrounds; Sépaq campsites in the park are mainly rustic, and several are accessible only by bike, foot, or water. Fuel, propane refills, dump stations, and grocery stores are concentrated in Alma, about 25 kilometres from the Pointe-Taillon sector. The terrain is flat, with paved access roads to most lakefront campgrounds, making the area well-suited to larger trailers and motorhomes.
