Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Urbain, QC

Parc national des Grands-Jardins is the main draw. It is home to species such as black bears, moose, grey wolves, red foxes, porcupines, common loons, lynx and spruce grouse. Activities include camping, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and the park is a renowned native trout fishery with about sixty lakes across four accommodation sectors. Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes is the signature hike, with a via ferrata circuit at the Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes sector. For family time at base camp, Camping Du Gouffre sits on the Rivière du Gouffre and includes an in-ground pool, mini-farm, large playground, inflatable games, beach, and canoe and kayak rentals. Camping Le Genevrier offers a lake for swimming with qualified lifeguard, plus mountain bike and hiking trails. Downtown Baie-Saint-Paul is minutes away for galleries, bakeries and groceries.

The Grands-Jardins camping season is short. The Pied des Monts campground typically operates from mid-May to late October, while the Lac Athrabaska (Arthabaska) sector runs roughly from late May through mid-October, with sites offered as rustic camping at the start and end of the season. Private grounds follow a similar window: Camping Du Gouffre runs mid-May to October, and Camping Leclerc on Isle-aux-Coudres also opens in the warm months. Peak demand runs from Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day through Labour Day. July and August bring the warmest weather and the busiest campgrounds. September delivers cooler nights and Charlevoix foliage, with quieter sites and often better availability after Labour Day. Winter changes the picture. Most private RV parks close for RV camping, while the Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes sector and backcountry ski and snowshoe trails are open daily from mid-December to the end of March, depending on snow conditions. Camping Le Genevrier stays open year-round and offers cottages for non-RV winter stays.

Sites vary widely. Inside Grands-Jardins, campgrounds range from serviced sites to rustic camping with dry toilets where sanitary services and water points are not offered, so RV renters should plan for dry camping in the park itself. Cell coverage is spotty along Route 381 north of Saint-Urbain, and the drive in climbs steeply. For full RV hookups, stay in the Baie-Saint-Paul corridor. Camping Le Genevrier has 180 fully-serviced campsites designed for all types of recreational vehicles. Camping Du Gouffre offers more than 150 sites grouped into three sectors with a mix of serviced and unserviced options. Both have dump stations and showers. Expect black flies and mosquitoes in June and early July, cool nights year-round at the park elevation, and bilingual French-English service at most campgrounds. Bring cash or card, mosquito repellent, and layers even in summer.
