Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Valérien, QC

Most trip planning revolves around Bic Provincial Park, where coastal hiking, sea-kayaking in the bays and coves, and wildlife watching are the headline activities. Thousands of seabirds nest in the park, rare plants flourish on the rocky capes, and seals bask in the sun near the shore. Close to the Rivière-du-Sud-Ouest campground, visitors find bicycle rental, hiking trails, and bike paths. Inland, Lac Rimouski - Rimouski Reserve is built around fishing, paddling, and wildlife viewing. Many sites provide an opportunity to see moose, white-tailed deer, and beaver, and birds, including birds of prey, are easy to observe. Kayak rental is available on-site at Lac Rimouski. The city of Rimouski adds a maritime museum, restaurants, and a riverside bike path.

The camping season is short and concentrated. Bic Provincial Park's campground typically operates from mid-May to mid-October, with peak demand from late June through mid-August when school holidays and warm coastal weather overlap. Reserve early for July weekends, since serviced sites at Bic and at Lac Rimouski fill weeks ahead. Lac Rimouski - Rimouski Reserve runs an even tighter window, generally from late May into early September, with the gravel access road and services winding down after Labour Day. Wildlife reserve campsites become reservable around the end of April each year, and it is highly recommended to reserve well in advance on the Sépaq website. Shoulder season (mid-May to mid-June, and September) brings cooler temperatures, fewer biting insects, and easier site availability. Bic Provincial Park itself is open year-round, and winter camping is available in the Porc-Épic sector, with a minimum of two adults per sector required for camper safety. Private parks such as Bas St. Laurent KOA Resort, Camping Temilac Inc, and Camping Annie typically operate from mid-May into September.

Conditions vary sharply between coastal and inland sites. At Bic, expect cool maritime air, fog rolling in off the estuary, and tidal beaches. All park entrances are off Route 132 between Saint-Fabien and Rimouski, with the Rivière-du-Sud-Ouest entrance serving as the main entrance, which keeps highway access easy for larger rigs. Lac Rimouski - Rimouski Reserve is remote. The camping area is accessible by car via a gravel road, about 40 km from the Lac Rimouski Registration Centre, so plan fuel, groceries, and waste tanks before heading in. Cell service is limited inside the reserve. Expect blackflies in June, mosquitoes through July, and cool nights into August. Bring layers, rain gear, and bug protection. Serviced pull-throughs are limited at Bic, so back-in skills help, and dump stations are concentrated near reception areas rather than at individual sites.
