Campgrounds and RV parks near Val-Joli, QC

Lake activities dominate the warm months. Camping Plage Mckenzie and Camping Ile-Marie both sit on the water, with swimming, paddling, and small-boat launches close to RV sites. Lake Magog supports motorboating, fishing, and easy shoreline cycling. Parc national du Mont-Orford, reached via the Lac-Fraser or Lac-Stukely entrances, has a dense hiking trail network, two supervised beaches at Lac Fraser and Lac Stukely, and a 10.6 km cycling path linking the two sectors. Snowshoe and crampon rentals are available in winter from Le Cerisier Discovery and Visitors Centre, and downhill skiing operates from the Mont-Orford ski station. Sherbrooke, a short drive north, adds museums, breweries, and a riverside bike path for rest-day plans.

The main camping season in this part of Quebec runs from mid-May to mid-October. The drive-in campgrounds inside Parc national du Mont-Orford, including the Lac-Fraser and Lac-Stukely sectors, operate within that window, and most private resorts around Lake Magog follow a similar schedule. Outside that period, services are shut and the gates to the drive-in campgrounds close. July and August are the busiest months, with the warmest weather and the highest demand for serviced RV sites. Sites near beaches and on the water book out first, especially for weekends and the Quebec construction holiday in late July. Late May, June, and September are quieter, with cooler nights and fewer bugs after the early-summer blackfly peak. Fall colour typically peaks in the first two weeks of October across the Eastern Townships, drawing day-trippers but leaving many campgrounds quiet midweek. Winter camping in the area is limited to year-round Nature cabins and rustic platforms inside Mont-Orford; serviced RV sites are not maintained.

Roads to the campgrounds around Val-Joli, Magog, and Orford are paved and well signed, with standard big-rig access via Route 220 and Chemin du Parc. Inside Parc national du Mont-Orford, both the Lac-Stukely and Lac-Fraser sectors offer a mix of serviced and unserviced sites, with Lac-Stukely the larger of the two at roughly 276 sites versus 149 at Lac-Fraser. Expect a wooded, hilly setting with a mix of shaded forest sites and more open lakefront pitches. Cell coverage is reliable near Magog and along the main highways but spotty deeper in the park. Dogs are allowed at most private campgrounds and on designated park trails, with restrictions in beach and campground zones. Black bears live in the surrounding forests, so food and waste should be stored inside the RV overnight.
