On land, Moose Mountain offers camping, swimming, boating, golf, tennis, disc golf and daily programs, plus an extensive trail system for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Asessippi has hiking trails, minigolf, a horseshoe pit and a group baseball diamond. Camping in this region is a short, concentrated season. Manitoba provincial park campgrounds, including Asessippi, generally operate from mid-May until mid-September. Saskatchewan provincial parks such as Moose Mountain run a similar May-through-September window, with full services available from May to September and limited winter use for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on park trails. Private parks including Fieldstone Campground and RV Resort typically open in early May and close in October. July and August bring the warmest, driest camping weather and the highest demand, with weekends and long weekends filling first. June is among the wettest months of the year in the region, so early-summer trips should plan for rain gear and softer ground at unserviced sites. Spring and fall shoulder seasons offer cooler nights, fewer bugs and better site availability, but overnight temperatures can drop below freezing well into May and again by late September. Winter closures affect most services, water hookups and washroom buildings across the park system.

Moose Mountain sits among beautiful stands of poplar and birch trees with hilly topography, and sites in the region trend toward gravel or grass pads under mature tree cover, with interior roads suited to larger rigs. Full-hookup sites are most common at private parks like Fieldstone Campground and RV Resort. Provincial parks offer a mix: Asessippi Provincial Park has basic, electric and group sites plus yurts, while Moose Mountain Provincial Park has 358 well treed sites with three group camps and overflow, and three service centres with playgrounds at each. Cell coverage is generally reliable near towns and along Highway 8 and the Trans-Canada corridor, and weaker in the wooded interior of Moose Mountain. Firewood is sold on site at most parks; open fires may be restricted during high fire-danger periods, so check current advisories before arrival. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late May through August, particularly near water and long grass. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, and black bears are present in the Moose Mountain uplands.
