Fishing anchors most trips in this region. Crooked Lake holds walleye, perch, and northern pike, while Duck Mountain's spring-fed Madge Lake is stocked with pike, walleye, and perch. Lake of the Prairies at Asessippi is regarded as one of Manitoba's top walleye fisheries. Beach days are a draw at Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park, known for shallow water, natural sand, and dunes at the south end of the lake. Families use the beach, picnic areas, and day-use facilities. Hikers and cyclists can access a section of the Trans Canada Trail at Duck Mountain, along with self-guided and interpretive trails through the boreal forest. Good Spirit Lake has its own network of interpretive and shoreline trails through the dune ecosystem.

The Saskatchewan Provincial Parks summer camping season begins the Thursday before Victoria Day and runs through September 30, with fall camping available in select parks in October. Crooked Lake, Good Spirit Lake, and Duck Mountain all follow this pattern. Duck Mountain also offers year-round accommodation in its lodge, cabins, and townhouses, while its campgrounds close for winter. Across the border, Asessippi Provincial Park's campground season typically runs from the Victoria Day long weekend into mid-September. June is the wettest month in the region, so early-season trips can bring soft ground and mosquitoes. July and August deliver the warmest, driest stretch and the busiest campsites, particularly on long weekends. September cools quickly but offers thinner crowds and fall colour in the Qu'Appelle Valley and Duck Mountain boreal forest. Check for current advisories before travelling. Flooding has affected Duck Mountain Provincial Park and the Kamsack area in recent summers, and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency posts wildfire and road closures during the season.

Crooked Lake and Good Spirit Lake include a mix of electric and non-electric sites, with some full-service pads. Both parks provide potable water, washrooms with showers, dump stations, picnic tables, and fire rings. Good Spirit Lake is a popular family destination with sandy beach frontage and multiple loops. Duck Mountain runs from wilderness tenting to electric sites and Camp-Easy yurts, plus year-round cabins, townhouses, and a lodge. Beginning September 8, 2026, the Spruce campground service centre will be demolished and rebuilt, with increased noise in that area during work. Cell coverage is generally reliable around Good Spirit Lake and Asessippi, and weaker in parts of Duck Mountain. Pets are welcome on-leash in all four parks but are restricted from beaches and public buildings unless in designated pet-friendly areas.
