Water recreation drives most trips here. At Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park, visitors can swim, boat, and fish for trophy walleye, relax on one of southern Saskatchewan's longest natural beaches, picnic in the day-use area, or watch for wildlife while hiking a trail. The park also offers boat, kayak, paddleboard, and bicycle rentals, plus a mini-golf course, waterpark, and playgrounds. Birders should note that the Last Mountain Lake Migratory Bird Sanctuary at the north end of the lake was set aside in 1887 as the first bird sanctuary on the continent, was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1987, and has recorded more than 300 bird species, including staging sandhill cranes and the endangered whooping crane. At Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, families can view a captive plains bison herd in a paddock among the rolling hills, and use the park's hiking and biking trails, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities.

The Saskatchewan camping season is short and clearly defined. Full services at Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park and Buffalo Pound Provincial Park are available from the May long weekend through September, matching the standard Sask Parks operating window. Off-season stays are possible at some sites, but services are limited and most concessions close. Mid-summer is peak season. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures, the longest days, and the busiest campgrounds. Prairie thunderstorms are common in June and early July, which is also the wettest stretch of the year, with June averaging the highest precipitation in the region. September usually delivers cooler nights, fewer bugs, and better site availability, especially mid-week. Winter closes most amenities. From October to May it can remain below freezing all day long, and Regina typically has around 103 frost days a year. RV travel in the shoulder months is possible for self-contained rigs, but water systems at provincial parks are typically shut off outside the posted season.

Sites in the area range from full-service to basic. Rowan's Ravine has two campground loops, Underwood and Elmwood, with a mix of electric and non-electric sites, modern washrooms and showers, laundry, a dump station, groceries, a licensed restaurant, and a playground. All campsites are electrified except sites 298, 299, and 300. Last Mountain Regional Park offers powered and non-serviced sites with water taps throughout the campground and a shower house. Buffalo Pound Provincial Park provides a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-service sites, plus Camp-Easy yurts. Expect gravel or grass pads, picnic tables, and fire pits at most sites. Provincial park rules are consistent: pets must be on a leash no longer than two metres, owners must clean up after them, and pets are not allowed in public facilities or on the beach unless a pet-friendly area is designated. Quiet time is enforced 24 hours a day at all provincial parks.
