Campgrounds and RV parks near Aliceville, AL

Aliceville Lake and the Tenn-Tom Waterway dominate the local recreation menu. Bass, crappie, and catfish fishing draw anglers year-round, and the Tom Bevill Visitor Center at Pickensville displays a restored snagboat and interprets the history of the waterway. Boat ramps, picnic areas, and short walking paths cluster around the lock and dam. History travelers can visit the Aliceville Museum, which preserves artifacts from Camp Aliceville, a large World War II German POW camp that operated in town from 1942 to 1945. A day trip east reaches Moundville Archaeological Park, with its earthen mounds, museum, and riverside trails along the Black Warrior. Tuscaloosa, roughly 36 miles east, adds college-town dining, University of Alabama campus tours, and larger grocery and supply stops for RV restocking.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in west-central Alabama. From mid-March through May, daytime highs sit in the seventies, dogwoods and azaleas bloom, and fishing on Aliceville Lake picks up as water temperatures climb. Pollen counts are heavy in April, which matters for travelers with allergies. Fall, from mid-September into November, brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and reliable weather for hiking at Moundville. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. Heat indices routinely exceed one hundred, and biting insects are active near the waterway. Full-hookup sites with fifty-amp service are worth prioritizing for air conditioning. Winters are mild but wet. Hard freezes occur but rarely last more than a few days, and many private parks stay open year-round. The Moundville campground bathhouse closes from December 1 through March 1, so only self-contained RVs can stay there in winter. Hunting seasons on nearby wildlife management lands can affect trail access, so travelers should check Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources dates before planning off-road walks.

Roads into Aliceville are mostly two-lane state highways with modest shoulders. U.S. 82 handles the bulk of east-west RV traffic and is in decent condition, while smaller county roads leading to lake access points can be narrow and patchy. Cell service is generally reliable in town and along main routes but drops in wooded pockets near the waterway. Most private RV parks in the area offer water, sewer, and thirty or fifty-amp electric, with laundry and basic camp stores common but not universal. Groceries, fuel, and propane are available in Aliceville itself, with larger supermarkets and RV parts in Tuscaloosa. Expect humid air, soft ground after heavy rain, and mosquitoes near dusk from late spring through early fall. Leveling blocks are useful, as some lakeside sites slope toward the water.
