Campgrounds and RV parks near Donovan Estates, AZ

Yuma's historic core sits a few miles east. Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park preserves original cellblocks and buildings dating to 1875, and the neighboring Colorado River State Historic Park interprets the former Yuma Quartermaster Depot, an army supply post that operated from 1865 to 1883. West and East Wetlands parks line the Colorado River with walking paths and shaded picnic areas. Outside town, the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area lies just across the California line off Interstate 8 and is one of the country's busiest OHV destinations. The Kofa National Wildlife Refuge north of Yuma offers rugged desert hiking and primitive camping. Families often add a day trip to Los Algodones, Mexico, seven miles south, or an afternoon at one of the Quechan casinos and area date farms.

Yuma's peak season runs from November through March, when daytime highs typically sit in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit and overnight lows rarely drop below the mid-40s. The snowbird influx swells the local population during January, February, and March, and the busiest RV parks fill their seasonal sites months in advance. Travelers who want a specific park or a pull-through site should book by late summer for the following winter. Spring is a comfortable shoulder season through April, with warm days and low rainfall. By May, highs climb into the 90s and desert activities shift to early morning. Summer, June through August, brings extreme heat with daily highs commonly above 100 F and multiple days each year reaching 110 F or more. Many parks stay open, but transient occupancy drops sharply and outdoor plans should focus on the river, air-conditioned attractions, or higher-elevation day trips. Rainfall is minimal year-round; the wettest months are December, January, and August during monsoon storms, though totals rarely exceed a couple of inches per season.

Most RV parks in the Yuma area are built around long-stay winter guests. Expect a high share of park models and seasonal rigs, with a smaller pool of transient sites often tucked between them. Pull-through spaces exist but are limited, and many resorts are marketed as 55-plus communities, so families with children should verify age policies before booking. Amenities scale with park size. Smaller parks typically offer a pool, laundry, and a clubhouse; larger resorts add pickleball, shuffleboard, fitness rooms, organized activities, and on-site golf. Full hookups are standard, and most parks provide Wi-Fi. The surrounding landscape is flat, open desert with little natural shade, so awnings, sun screens, and extra water are worth packing. Roads in and around Donovan Estates are paved on the main routes, with some unpaved side streets.
