Campgrounds near Jasper, Arkansas
Jasper sits in Newton County in the heart of the Arkansas Ozarks, and serves as a base for trips into the Buffalo National River corridor and the surrounding Ozark National Forest. The town is small, but its location along Scenic Byway 7 makes it a practical starting point for RV travelers exploring bluffs, waterfalls, and floatable rivers within a short drive.
RV options in the area range from full-hookup private parks to rustic public sites. Dogwood Springs Campground is a short drive from downtown Jasper and offers cabins along with tent and RV sites. Shady Oaks Campground and RV Park and JB Trading Co add additional private options, while Buffalo Outdoor Center RV Park in nearby Ponca caters to floaters heading for the upper Buffalo. Centerpoint Horse Camp and Lodge supports equestrian visitors.
Beyond the private parks, the National Park Service operates a string of developed campgrounds along the Buffalo National River, with most sites now on Recreation.gov and a few remaining first-come, first-served.
Things to do near Jasper
The Buffalo National River is the region's main draw. Visitors float and paddle its clear water past bluffs that reach roughly 440 feet overhead. Smallmouth bass, goggle-eye, and other game fish are common, and swimming holes along the Little Buffalo River are accessible from town.
Hiking is the second major activity. The Buffalo River Trail, Lost Valley, and the Goat Trail at Big Bluff are within a short drive, and Round Top Mountain Trail sits just south of Jasper. Elk viewing is popular in the Boxley Valley, where a reintroduced herd roams the upper river corridor. Rock climbing at Sam's Throne and caving in the surrounding limestone country round out the options.

Spring is the busiest season on the upper Buffalo River. Snowmelt and heavy spring rain keep water levels high enough for floating from March through May, and this stretch also sees the region's peak rainfall. Wildflowers and waterfalls are at their strongest, and reservable sites at National Park Service campgrounds fill quickly on weekends.
Summer brings hot, humid weather with highs commonly in the upper 80s Fahrenheit. Water levels on the upper Buffalo often drop too low for floating by late summer, pushing paddlers to the middle and lower districts. Swimming holes, shaded trails, and the Little Buffalo River are popular during this period.
Fall is a strong shoulder season. September and October bring cooler nights, lower humidity, and Ozark foliage color that peaks in late October. Winter is cold and generally quiet: seasonal water and flush restrooms at NPS campgrounds along the Buffalo run roughly from mid-March through mid-November, and snow is possible but usually light.
How to book campgrounds near Jasper
Private campgrounds around Jasper, including Dogwood Springs Campground, Shady Oaks Campground and RV Park, JB Trading Co, Centerpoint Horse Camp and Lodge, and Buffalo Outdoor Center RV Park, are booked directly through the operator, typically by phone or through the campground's website. Spring and fall weekends book out earliest, so reserving well ahead is recommended.
Most developed campgrounds inside Buffalo National River are managed by the National Park Service, with reservations handled through Recreation.gov. Bookings open up to six months in advance, and spring and summer weekends on the upper Buffalo fill fast. Kyles Landing, between Jasper and Ponca, remains a tent-only, first-come, first-served campground where RVs, camping trailers, motorhomes, and popup campers are prohibited. Confirm hookup availability and rig-length limits before booking.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the Buffalo River corridor are narrow, winding, and often steep. Some access roads to riverside campgrounds are gravel and not suitable for large motorhomes or long trailers, so route-checking with the campground before arrival is important. Cell service is limited through much of the river corridor, especially between Ponca and Kyles Landing, and gas stations are scarce outside Jasper, Harrison, and Ponca.
Hookups vary widely. Private parks such as Dogwood Springs Campground and Buffalo Outdoor Center RV Park typically offer electric and water at RV sites, while NPS campgrounds along the river are generally non-electric with vault or flush restrooms depending on the location. Water and flush facilities at several NPS sites operate roughly from mid-March through mid-November.
Wildlife is active: black bear, elk, deer, and copperheads are all present. Standard food storage and trail precautions apply.

Booking is low-risk. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If severe weather pushes through the Ozarks, the Buffalo River floods, or life simply gets in the way, RVezy's policy gives you fair refund options based on how far out you are from your trip start date. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy (not individual hosts), and the support team can help if conditions change. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Jasper RV rental for fall foliage season, then use the grace period to finalize your plans.

Pro tip: pack a tie-out cable for your campsite at Steel Creek or Ozark Campground, the shade is great but there are no fenced areas.
nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Jasper?

They'll level the rig, hook up utilities if available, and walk you through every system from the propane stove to the freshwater tank. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and message hosts for a quote (delivery fees usually scale with distance). Pro tip: ask about delivery to Lost Valley trailhead access points if you're chasing waterfalls in spring.
nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmHow far can I travel on a Jasper RV trip?
You've got incredible range from Jasper, AR. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and many offer generous daily allowances or even RV rental with unlimited mileage, so message the listing to confirm before booking. From Jasper, popular drives include Eureka Springs (about 60 miles northwest), Hot Springs National Park (around 130 miles south), Branson, MO (roughly 90 miles north), Bentonville and Crystal Bridges Museum (about 95 miles west), and Petit Jean State Park (around 110 miles southeast). arkansas.com/things-to-do/scenic-bywaysWhere should I camp during my Jasper RV trip?
Jasper sits right in the heart of Buffalo National River country, so you're spoiled for choice. Top picks for RV camping in Jasper include Ozark Campground (riverside, electric hookups, near Pruitt), Tyler Bend Campground (full amenities, near the visitor center), Buffalo Point Campground (electric sites, river access, popular for families), and Lost Valley Canoe & Lodging (private, full hookups, near Ponca). For a quieter base, Horseshoe Canyon Ranch offers RV sites with mountain views. Reserve Buffalo National River sites through Recreation.gov up to six months ahead, especially for May, June, and October weekends. Pro tip: snag a riverside site at Steel Creek if you're a first-timer, the elk often graze in the meadow at sunrise.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Jasper, AR?
The sweet spots are mid-April through early June and mid-September through early November. Spring brings roaring waterfalls at Hawksbill Crag and Lost Valley, with daytime highs in the 65 to 78 F range. Fall is legendary in the Ozarks, mid-October typically delivers peak foliage along Highway 7 with crisp 55 to 72 F days. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid (85 to 92 F) but perfect for floating the Buffalo River. Winter is mild but chilly (30s to 50s F), and many campgrounds stay open with reduced services. Pro tip: book your Jasper RV rental by July if you want a riverfront site for October leaf-peeping weekends, they fill up fast.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Jasper?
You'll do great, and you're not on your own. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, dumping tanks, propane, and the generator, plus you can text them throughout your trip with questions. For your first time renting an RV in the Jasper area, consider a smaller Class C or travel trailer; Highway 7 and Highway 43 have tight switchbacks that reward smaller rigs. Or, skip the drive entirely by booking delivery to your campground. Pro tip: practice backing into a site at a wide pull-through at Tyler Bend before tackling a tighter spot at Steel Creek, and download offline maps since cell service is spotty in the canyon.
arkansashighways.com/What happens if the RV breaks down in the Ozarks?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking with a protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on Scenic Highway 7, a dead battery at Kyle's Landing, or a mechanical issue near Ponca, one call gets help dispatched to you. Your host is also a direct lifeline, most respond within minutes for questions about quirks like the awning or water pump. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if you need help coordinating. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and the roadside assistance number before you leave the driveway, cell service drops in the Buffalo River canyon, so having details saved offline is smart.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Jasper RV rental on a multi-state road trip?
Yes, an RV road trip from Jasper opens up the whole mid-South. You're free to travel across US states on most RVezy rentals, just confirm with your host before booking. Popular routes include Jasper to Hot Springs to Memphis (about 270 miles total), Jasper north to Branson and the Mark Twain National Forest (around 90 miles), and the full Ozark loop through Eureka Springs, Bentonville, and Mountain View. Cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage. Pro tip: if you're planning a one-way trip, message hosts directly from the listing page, some will accommodate drop-offs in Little Rock, Fayetteville, or Branson for an extra fee.
arkansas.com/things-to-do/scenic-bywaysHow much should I budget for fuel on my Jasper RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it's predictable. Expect 7 to 10 mpg for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, and 15 to 20 mpg for a campervan or tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Arkansas gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often around $2.80 to $3.30 per gallon in Newton County. The closest fueling stops to Jasper are right in town on Highway 7 and in Harrison (about 20 miles north), so top off before heading deep into Buffalo River country. Pro tip: download GasBuddy and fill up in Harrison or Russellville where prices are typically lowest, the small Jasper stations charge a premium.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Jasper?
For the best campgrounds near Jasper, plan ahead. Buffalo National River campgrounds (Steel Creek, Kyle's Landing, Ozark, Tyler Bend, Buffalo Point) open reservations on Recreation.gov six months in advance, and prime weekends in May, June, and October book up within hours. Aim to reserve by January for spring trips and by April for fall foliage weekends. Weekday sites are far easier, sometimes available a week out. Private parks like Lost Valley Canoe & Lodging and Buffalo Outdoor Center take direct bookings and offer more flexibility. Pro tip: if you strike out on Recreation.gov, check the site again at 7 AM Central, cancellations post throughout the morning and you can grab a same-day riverside spot.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What are the driving conditions like around Jasper?
Jasper sits in the rugged Ozarks, so expect twisty, scenic two-lane roads rather than highways. Scenic Highway 7 (designated an Arkansas Scenic Byway) winds through tight switchbacks with 6 to 8% grades, and Highway 43 down to Ponca and Boxley Valley has steep drop-offs without guardrails in spots. Take it slow, use lower gears on descents, and pull over at the many overlooks to let faster traffic pass. Watch for elk near Boxley Valley at dawn and dusk, the herd is famous and frequently crosses the road. Winter ice storms can briefly close roads from December to February. Pro tip: avoid driving Highway 7 after dark your first night, daytime gives you a feel for the curves before you tackle them in low light.
ardot.gov/travel-information/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Jasper?
Buffalo National River campgrounds keep things pleasantly rustic but functional. Ozark, Tyler Bend, and Buffalo Point offer electric hookups (no water or sewer at sites), flush toilets, drinking water spigots, and dump stations on-site. Steel Creek and Kyle's Landing are more primitive, vault toilets and no hookups, but they're stunning. For full hookups (water, electric, sewer), book a private park like Lost Valley Canoe & Lodging, Buffalo Outdoor Center, or Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. Free dump stations are available at Tyler Bend and Buffalo Point. Pro tip: fill your freshwater tank in Jasper or Harrison before heading down to Steel Creek, the road in is steep and you don't want to make two trips.
nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhat's included inside the RV itself?
Motorhome rental in Jasper comes ready for adventure. Most RVs on RVezy include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, climate control, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many also include a generator for boondocking at Steel Creek, a TV, outdoor speakers, and basic kitchenware. Wi-Fi and cell boosters are common add-ons, though signal in the Buffalo River canyon is genuinely limited no matter what gear you have. Each listing details exactly what's included with photos. Pro tip: filter for an RV with a generator if you want to stay at the river-bottom campgrounds, you'll need it to run AC on warm summer nights.
nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/things2know.htmWhat add-ons can I get with my Jasper RV rental?
Hosts offer all kinds of practical add-ons to make your Jasper RV trip smoother. Common ones include linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators ($25 to $50 per day), propane refills, bike racks, and even kayak or paddleboard rentals (perfect for the Buffalo River). Mileage policies vary by host, many offer 100 to 150 free miles per day with reasonable per-mile fees after, while some offer unlimited mileage for local-area trips. Pickup is usually at the host's location, with delivery available for a fee. Pro tip: bundle a delivery + setup + linen kit package if it's your first time, you'll arrive to a fully made bed at Tyler Bend instead of wrestling with sheets.
arkansas.com/jasperHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy when you book (no cash exchanged with the host). Your booking total covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, taxes, the protection plan you choose, and any add-ons. A separate refundable security deposit is held on your card before the trip (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) and released after a successful return. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff, document existing dings, and return the RV with fuel and tanks per the listing instructions. Pro tip: take dated photos of the propane gauge and odometer at both pickup and return, it makes any post-trip math effortless.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a campervan rental in Jasper a good fit for the Ozarks?
A campervan rental in Jasper is honestly one of the smartest picks for the Ozarks. Class B vans handle Scenic Highway 7's switchbacks, Boxley Valley's narrow lanes, and the steep descent into Steel Creek far more comfortably than a 30-foot Class A. They're easy to park at trailheads like Lost Valley and Hawksbill Crag (Whitaker Point), get 18 to 22 mpg, and fit in any standard campsite. Most sleep 2 to 4 and include a small kitchen, bed, and wet bath. Filter for Class B on RVezy to see your options. Pro tip: a campervan also lets you make impromptu stops at the Cliff House Inn overlook and the Arkansas Grand Canyon pull-offs without worrying about turnaround space.
