Campgrounds near Ola, Arkansas
Ola sits in the Arkansas River Valley in Yell County, roughly midway between the Ouachita Mountains to the south and the Ozarks to the north. The town works well as a base for RV travelers heading to Lake Dardanelle, Mount Nebo, and the surrounding national forest lands. Russellville, the nearest full-service town, is a short drive north on Highway 7 and covers grocery, fuel, and RV-supply needs.
Camping options within about 30 minutes of Ola include Mount Nebo State Park with 34 campsites (24 Class B and 10 hike-in tent sites) and the Russellville area of Lake Dardanelle State Park with 57 campsites (16 Class AAA, 14 Class AA, and 27 Class B), plus 18 Class B sites on the Dardanelle side of the lake. Private options in the area include The Weekender Cabins & RV Retreat, Whispering Springs Retreat, Arkansas, and Ivy's Cove RV Retreat.
Road access matters when picking a site. Trailers or RVs above 24 ft are not recommended on the climb up State Highway 155 to Mount Nebo, so larger rigs typically stage at Lake Dardanelle or a private park instead.
Things to do near Ola
Lake Dardanelle is the region's main draw. The 34,300-acre reservoir on the Arkansas River offers bass, crappie, and catfish fishing, boating, picnicking, and a swimming beach across two areas of the state park. The Russellville visitor center includes a Sport Fishing Weigh-in Pavilion, a fishing pier, boardwalk, trail, and 8,000-gallon aquariums.
Mount Nebo State Park handles the hiking and cycling. The 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps constructed many of the rustic-style cabins, pavilions, bridges, and 32.6 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, and hang gliders launch here as well. Families often use the park's pool, tennis courts, and picnic areas as a midday break from the trails.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV windows in the Arkansas River Valley. Mild days and cooler nights make hiking at Mount Nebo comfortable, and fall foliage typically peaks in late October and early November, bringing a spike in weekend demand at both state parks.
Summer is hot and humid across the valley. Even though Mount Nebo sits at a slightly higher elevation it still gets hot, so hiking earlier in the day helps beat the heat. Lake Dardanelle sees heavy boat and fishing use through summer, including bass tournament weekends that fill nearby campgrounds well in advance.
Winter is quiet but usable. Mount Nebo State Park cabins and campsites remain available to reserve year-round, and the river valley is a favorite wintering area for the American bald eagle, which draws wildlife viewers to Corps of Engineers shorelines from December through February. Snow is rare but overnight lows drop below freezing on a regular basis.
How to book campgrounds near Ola
Arkansas State Parks handles bookings for both Mount Nebo State Park and Lake Dardanelle State Park through its central reservation system. Sites can be reserved online at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com or by phone, up to one year in advance. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends and during peak seasons.
Lake Dardanelle also has U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds along its shoreline, such as Old Post Road, which are booked on Recreation.gov. Corps sites typically open six months ahead on a rolling window, so for peak-season visits it pays to book as early as possible.
Private parks near Ola, including The Weekender Cabins & RV Retreat, Whispering Springs Retreat, Arkansas, and Ivy's Cove RV Retreat, are booked directly with the operator.
What to expect at Ola-area campgrounds
Full-hookup sites are concentrated at Lake Dardanelle. The Russellville campground handles rigs up to 50 feet and offers 30 full-hookup sites plus 27 water-and-electric sites with 30/50-amp service, a dump station, showers, playground, boat launch, and hiking trail. Waterfront loops fill first, and shade coverage across the campground is generally reasonable.
Mount Nebo is more rustic. Class B sites at Mount Nebo are equipped with water and 30-amp electric, and there is no dump station at the park, so plan a stop at Lake Dardanelle or a nearby private park on the way out.
Pets are welcome on leash at both state parks. Cell coverage is patchy on top of Mount Nebo and inconsistent along parts of the lakeshore, so download maps and reservations before arrival.

A standard non-commercial Arkansas license covers any RV under 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), which includes virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel listed on RVezy. You also need to be 25 or older and complete RVezy's quick ID verification when you book. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring a valid driver's license from your home country, and an International Driving Permit is recommended if your license is not in English. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is: you book, verify, and you're ready to roll toward Nimrod Lake.

Booking is low risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy that applies to every rental, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to finalize your plans for your Ola RV trip. If life happens, severe weather rolls through the Arkansas River Valley, or a Fourche LaFave River flood event affects your campground, RVezy's customer support team is ready to help you sort it out. Because RVezy (not the host) manages cancellations, the rules are consistent across every listing you see. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs near Nimrod Lake during spring crappie season, then relax knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my RV rental in Ola?
Absolutely, Arkansas is wonderfully dog-friendly and a pet-friendly RV rental in Ola is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots, often for a small cleaning fee. Once you arrive, leashed dogs are welcome at the Nimrod Lake Corps of Engineers campgrounds (Quarry Cove, River Road, Carter Cove, Sunlight Bay, and County Line), and nearby Petit Jean State Park has miles of leash-friendly trails leading to the famous Cedar Falls. Pro tip: pack a tie-out and a collapsible water bowl, summer pavement around the lake gets hot, so early-morning and evening walks are the move.
swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Lakes/Nimrod-Lake/Can the RV be delivered to my campground near Ola?
Yes, RV delivery in Ola is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to RVing. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig directly to your campsite at Quarry Cove, River Road, or Carter Cove on Nimrod Lake, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your campsite number and arrival date. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Pro tip: motorhome rental Ola guests who choose delivery often spend their first afternoon on the lake instead of learning hookups, an unbeatable way to begin a vacation.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232682How far can I drive on my Ola RV rental, and what about mileage policies?
You've got plenty of range to explore: most RVezy hosts in the Ola area include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many offer RV rental with unlimited mileage packages or weekly mileage bundles you can add at checkout. That's more than enough for the popular loops from Ola, since Hot Springs National Park is only 40 miles south on Scenic Byway 7, Little Rock is about 75 miles east, Mount Magazine (Arkansas's highest peak) is roughly 50 miles north, and Petit Jean State Park sits just 30 miles away. Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger RV road trip from Ola, like a loop through the Ozarks or down to Hot Springs, ask your host upfront about a flat-rate mileage add-on, it almost always beats per-mile overage fees.

River Road Campground offers 21 sites along the Fourche LaFave River with a boat ramp and playground. Sunlight Bay, Carter Cove, and County Line round out the five Corps of Engineers campgrounds. For a state-park experience, Petit Jean State Park (30 miles east) has 125 reservable sites with full hookups. RV camping Ola visitors love that all five Nimrod campgrounds are bookable through Recreation.gov. recreation.gov/camping/gateways/539When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Ola, AR?
Honestly, Ola is a year-round destination, but spring (mid-March through May) and fall (September through early November) are the absolute sweet spot. Daytime highs hover in the 70s and low 80s, lake levels are perfect for fishing, and the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains light up with dogwood blooms or autumn color. Summers are hot and humid with highs around 93°F and high lake-swimming demand, while winters are mild (lows around 39°F) with occasional brief cold snaps. Spring is legendary for crappie fishing on Nimrod Lake, the oldest Corps of Engineers lake in Arkansas. Pro tip: late October weekdays often have wide-open campsites, cool nights for campfires, and uncrowded trails at Petit Jean State Park.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving in Ola?
You're in one of the friendliest places in the country to try RVing for the first time. Ola is a small Yell County town with light traffic, wide rural highways, and gentle elevation changes, no big-city traffic, no tight switchbacks. Every RVezy host walks you through the RV step by step at pickup: how to use the leveling jacks, run the generator, hook up shore power, and dump tanks. If you're nervous, choose a Class C motorhome or campervan rental Ola listing, they drive much like a large van. The route from Ola south on AR-7 to Nimrod Lake is a designated National Scenic Byway with mountain views the entire way. Pro tip: do your pickup in the morning so you arrive at camp with daylight to spare.
fmcsa.dot.gov/safety/driver-safety/cmv-driving-tips-driving-rural-roadsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Ola trip?
You're never alone on the road: every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so one phone call gets help dispatched whether you're at Quarry Cove, on Scenic Byway 7, or out near Petit Jean Mountain. Roadside covers flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also typically just a quick text away for questions about quirky switches or the water heater. Keep in mind that cell service is spotty inside some Nimrod Lake campgrounds, so River Road campers often drive a few minutes toward the dam for a stronger signal. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and you'll have one less thing to think about.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Ola RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Absolutely, you have the freedom to roam. Interstate travel anywhere in the United States is allowed by default on RVezy rentals, so popular RV road trip from Ola routes like heading west to Oklahoma's Lake Eufaula, north to Branson, Missouri, or east to Memphis, Tennessee are all on the table. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval and proper documentation, so message the host before booking if that's your plan. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a classic loop from Ola, north to the Ozarks, west to Mount Magazine, then south to Hot Springs, packs three iconic Arkansas regions into one week.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for gas?
Realistic fuel planning makes your trip stress-free. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 mpg, and larger Class A rigs run 7 to 10 mpg. Travel trailer setups depend on your tow vehicle but usually drop it by 25 to 40 percent. Arkansas consistently has some of the lowest fuel prices in the country, and you'll find stations in Ola, Plainview, and Danville right along your route. For a typical 4-night Nimrod Lake trip with 200 to 300 miles of driving, most renters spend $90 to $180 on fuel. Pro tip: top off in Russellville (20 miles north) where prices tend to be a few cents cheaper than rural stations along Scenic Byway 7.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ola?
Booking ahead is the easy win. The Nimrod Lake Corps of Engineers campgrounds (Quarry Cove, River Road, Carter Cove, Sunlight Bay, and County Line) take reservations through Recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window, and waterfront sites for summer holiday weekends often fill within hours of opening. Petit Jean State Park sites can be reserved well in advance through the Arkansas State Parks website, and lakeside loops near Lake Bailey book heavily throughout the year. For spring crappie season (March through May), aim to book 60 to 90 days ahead. Pro tip: midweek arrivals are the secret to grabbing premium sites last minute, especially at Quarry Cove where weekday turnover is highest.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/539What are driving conditions like around Ola, and what should I watch for?
Driving around Ola is genuinely enjoyable, you're on quiet rural highways through some of Arkansas's prettiest scenery. AR-7 (Scenic Byway 7) is the main route and features gentle mountain curves between the Ouachita and Ozark ranges with no low bridges or tight clearances to stress about. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, especially around the Fourche LaFave bottoms, and slow down for the occasional turkey or even a black bear crossing forest roads. Spring can bring strong thunderstorms with the occasional tornado watch, so check the National Weather Service Little Rock forecast before driving. Pro tip: fuel up before turning onto AR-60 toward the campgrounds, services thin out fast once you leave Plainview.

Nimrod Lake campgrounds are surprisingly well-equipped for a peaceful rural setting. Quarry Cove and River Road both offer paved sites with water and 30/50 amp electric hookups, modern bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, lantern poles, and a centrally located sanitary dump station. Quarry Cove adds a swim beach and boat ramp, while River Road has a playground and direct river access. Drinking water spigots and fish-cleaning stations are scattered through each loop. Petit Jean State Park steps it up with WiFi in every camping loop and 35 full-hookup Class AAA sites. Many listings include a generator, outdoor speakers, awning with LED lights, TV with antenna, and basic cookware and linens. Wi-Fi hotspots are common add-ons. Pro tip: filter for the Sleeps count you need (Nimrod Lake is a popular family RV trip Ola destination), and message the host to confirm whether kitchen basics and bedding are included so you only pack what you actually need.
energy.gov/energysaver/articles/rv-energy-efficiencyWhat popular add-ons can I get with my Ola RV, and how does pickup work?
Hosts in the Ola area offer some fantastic extras that make your trip easier. Common add-ons include kayak or paddleboard rentals (perfect for Nimrod Lake's 3,500 acres), camping chair and table bundles ($25 to $50), portable propane fire pits, generator fuel packages, and bedding and kitchen kits. Many hosts even rent fishing gear since crappie, bass, and catfish are the local specialty. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meet-up point in Ola, Plainview, or Russellville, and includes a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough of every system. Mileage policies and pet fees are listed on each page. Pro tip: ask about a generator package if you plan to camp at primitive sites along the Ouachita National Forest backroads.
fs.usda.gov/ouachitaHow does payment work and what should I know about the security deposit?
Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host, and your money is held safely until your trip begins. A refundable security deposit is placed on hold (not charged) before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, and it's released after the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any issues, walk around the RV with your host at pickup, photograph any existing scuffs, and do the same at drop-off. Pro tip: keep dump station receipts and propane top-off info handy so the return is fast and your deposit refund processes quickly, easy money back in your pocket after a great rent an RV in Ola adventure.
