Campgrounds near Russellville, Arkansas
Russellville sits in the Arkansas River Valley between the Ozark National Forest to the north and the Ouachita Mountains to the south, with Lake Dardanelle forming its western edge. The town is a practical base for RV travelers: it has full-service grocery, fuel, and dump stations, sits directly on Interstate 40, and puts several state parks and Corps of Engineers lakes within a short drive.
Russellville - Lake Dardanelle State Park anchors the local camping options with lakeside RV sites, and Mount Nebo State Park rises to the southwest on a mountaintop with panoramic valley views. Closer to town, Ivy's Cove RV Retreat and Mission RV Park offer standard hookup camping, while Xtreme Paintball and Laser Tag Eclipse Park adds an activity-based stop.
Most RV renters use Russellville as either a multi-night lake destination or a mid-route stop between Little Rock and Fort Smith. Reservations run through the Arkansas State Parks system for state park sites and through Recreation.gov for federal Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Dardanelle Lake, including Piney Bay.
Things to do around Russellville
Lake Dardanelle covers roughly 34,000 acres and is the main draw for boating, bass fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Russellville - Lake Dardanelle State Park has a visitor center with aquariums, a boat ramp, swim beach, fishing pier, and playground, and it hosts several major fishing tournaments each year. Mountain biking and hiking trails on Mount Nebo are within a short drive, and the Rim Trail circles the summit with overlooks of the valley below.
Mount Nebo State Park also offers hang gliding launch points, a seasonal swimming pool, tennis courts, and more than 14 miles of hiking. Downtown Russellville has restaurants, a farmers market, and the Arkansas Tech University campus. Petit Jean Mountain and Mount Magazine, home to Signal Hill, the highest point in Arkansas, are both within about an hour by RV.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping. March through May brings wildflowers, greening hardwoods, and warm days, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year, with May averaging the highest rainfall and frequent thunderstorms. Severe weather including tornadoes is possible in spring, so travelers should monitor forecasts and choose campgrounds with sturdy shelter access.
Summer runs hot and humid, with daytime highs regularly in the low 90s and warm nights in the low 70s. Lake activities are at their peak, the Mount Nebo pool is open, and campgrounds fill on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Book early for holiday weekends.
Fall brings cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and hardwood color in October and November. Winter is mild by northern standards, with occasional freezes and rare light snow. The Russellville campground at Lake Dardanelle State Park and its bathhouses stay open year-round, and the river valley is a known wintering area for bald eagles.
How to book campgrounds near Russellville
State park sites at Russellville - Lake Dardanelle State Park and Mount Nebo State Park are booked through the Arkansas State Parks reservation system online or by phone, up to 12 months in advance. Weekend stays require a two-night minimum, and three-day holiday weekends require three nights. Camping is limited to a 14-day stay within a 30-day period. Standard check-in is 4:00 p.m. and check-out is 11:00 a.m.
Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Dardanelle Lake, such as Piney Bay, are booked through Recreation.gov. Private parks including Ivy's Cove RV Retreat and Mission RV Park are booked directly with the operator. For summer weekends, holiday periods, and major fishing tournaments, reserve well ahead.
What to expect on the ground
The Russellville campground at Lake Dardanelle State Park has 57 sites split into Class AAA full-hookup sites with 50-amp service, Class AA sites with 30-amp full hookups, and Class B water-and-electric sites, plus paved pads and lake views from many spots. Bathhouses and the boat ramp stay open year-round, and the roads accommodate big rigs. Sites can feel close together on busy weekends.
Mount Nebo requires a careful drive: Highway 155 climbs 11 switchbacks with grades up to 18 percent, and RVs or trailers longer than 24 feet are not permitted. There is no dump station on the mountain, though registered campers can use the one at Lake Dardanelle State Park. Renters in larger motorhomes should choose Lake Dardanelle or a private park in town instead. Cell coverage is generally good in Russellville and along I-40 but can drop in more remote Corps campgrounds.

Good news: for nearly every RV you'll rent in Russellville, a regular driver's license is all you need. Arkansas only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on RVezy falls well below that threshold. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy will verify your ID right inside the booking flow, so there's no extra paperwork. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you're ready to roll toward Lake Dardanelle.

That safety net is a big reason first time renters feel confident booking their first Russellville RV trip.

arkansasstateparks.com/parks/lake-dardanelle-state-parkWhen is the best time to take an RV trip in Russellville?

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for gas?
Budgeting for fuel on your Russellville RV trip is easy once you know the ballpark. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 MPG, Class B campervans 16 to 22 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Pro tip: fill up in Russellville before heading into the Ozarks or down Scenic Highway 7, where stations get sparse between towns.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground around Russellville?
For the best sites at Lake Dardanelle State Park, aim to book through the Arkansas State Parks reservation system 3 to 6 months ahead for spring and fall weekends, and up to a year ahead for the most coveted lakefront spots (the park allows reservations up to 13 months in advance). Federal Corps of Engineers sites like Old Post Road and Spadra Park can be reserved on Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Weekdays and winter dates often have same-week availability. Pro tip: if peak weekends are booked, the Dardanelle side of Lake Dardanelle State Park has quieter sites that often fill up later than the Russellville Campground.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What are driving conditions like around Russellville for a larger RV?
Russellville is one of the friendlier places in Arkansas to drive an RV. Interstate 40 runs flat and straight right through town, and the main routes to Lake Dardanelle State Park are wide and well maintained. If you head south on Scenic Highway 7 toward Hot Springs or up to Mount Nebo State Park, expect twisty mountain switchbacks and steep grades, so take it slow in a tall Class A and check posted clearance signs along the way. Spring can bring sudden thunderstorms; check the forecast before you roll. Pro tip: fuel and dump in Russellville before tackling Mount Magazine, the state's highest peak at 2,753 feet.

Pickup and drop-off usually happen at the host's home, with delivery available for an added fee. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking, it is often cheaper than adding mid trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Russellville,%20ArkansasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before your Russellville RV trip starts, and it is released after the host confirms the RV came back clean and undamaged.
