Campgrounds and RV parks near Big River, CA

The Colorado River is the main attraction. Boat ramps along the Parker Strip put rigs onto calm, dam-controlled water suitable for waterskiing, wakeboarding, personal watercraft, and inner-tube floats. Marinas at resorts such as Pirate's Den RV Resort and Marina and Emerald Cove Resort handle slips and fuel. Fishing focuses on largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, and bluegill; a California or Arizona license with a Colorado River use stamp covers both banks. Off the water, Parker Dam and the Buckskin Mountain area offer scenic drives and short desert hikes. The Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge upstream is good for birding. Day trips reach Lake Havasu City and the relocated London Bridge to the north, and the casinos of Laughlin, Nevada about two hours away. OHV riders use designated routes on BLM land west of Big River.

Big River runs on a snowbird calendar. The prime RV season is mid-October through April, when daytime highs sit in the mid-60s to mid-80s Fahrenheit and overnight lows rarely dip below freezing. Long-term winter rates and monthly stays dominate at resorts like Riverland Resort and Blue Water RV Park during this window, and weekends fill quickly around Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and Presidents' Day. Spring break in March brings a sharp uptick in boater traffic on the Parker Strip and tightens availability at riverfront sites. Summer is intense: June through August routinely exceeds 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and triple-digit highs are normal into mid-September. Holiday weekends, especially Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, draw heavy boater crowds, and waterfront sites are typically booked months in advance. The North American Monsoon delivers brief but powerful thunderstorms in July and August, with localized flash-flood risk in desert washes. Late September through October offers warm water with thinner crowds, often the best balance for families.

Big River is a small unincorporated community, not a full-service town. Most groceries, fuel, propane, dump stations, and repair shops are across the river in Parker, Arizona, a short drive via the Highway 62 bridge. Note that oversized vehicles and rigs towing trailers are not permitted to cross Parker Dam itself, so RVs heading to or from Lake Havasu must route through Parker. Resort sites are typically level with full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp service, and many include patios or boat parking. Big-rig access is generally good on Parker Dam Road, though some older parks have tight interior turns. Expect strong sun, low humidity, and dusty wind events in spring. Bring shade, ample fresh water, and tire covers. Cellular service from major carriers is reliable along the river. Mosquitoes are minimal, but bees, scorpions, and rattlesnakes are present in the surrounding desert.
