Campgrounds near Allentown, Florida
Allentown is an unincorporated community in Santa Rosa County, Florida, in the Florida Panhandle east of Pensacola and north of Milton. The area sits near the western edge of Blackwater River State Forest, the largest state forest in Florida, with over 210,000 acres of woodlands, lakes, and streams, and this forest anchors most of the RV camping options in the region.
RV travelers have a mix of private resorts and public forest campgrounds within a short drive. Named private options in the area include Sunburst RV Resort, Adventures Unlimited, Hidden Lake Resort, Vacay Village of Pensacola, and Splash RV Resort & Waterpark. Adventures Unlimited sits in Santa Rosa County within the Blackwater River State Forest area along Coldwater Creek, offering RV and tent sites plus cabins.
Public camping is available at Blackwater River State Park and at multiple state forest recreation areas, including Krul, Bear Lake, Karick Lake, and Hurricane Lake. These add lakeside and creekside sites with electric and water hookups for RVs traveling with families.
Things to do near Allentown
Paddling is the signature activity. Adventures Unlimited offers canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and camping along Coldwater Creek past secluded, sugar-white sandbars through Blackwater River State Forest in Northwest Florida. The outfitter also runs a canopy zip line tour with nearly a mile of lines above Coldwater Creek, some reaching about 65 feet in the air.
Blackwater River State Park is a common day trip from local campgrounds, with river swimming, tubing, and access to nature trails including the Juniper Lake Trail. State forest recreation areas add fishing lakes, hiking, and mountain biking. Pensacola Beach and the National Naval Aviation Museum are within an hour's drive for a beach day or rainy-day option.

The Florida Panhandle has a humid subtropical climate. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with lower humidity and moderate rainfall. Summer brings hot, wet weather with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and it is also peak Atlantic hurricane season. The Florida Forest Service closes campgrounds and recreation areas on state forests when the county is placed under a tropical storm or hurricane warning by the National Weather Service, and reservations are automatically refunded for closures related to tropical weather.
Most campgrounds in the area operate year-round. Blackwater River State Park is open year round, and Adventures Unlimited is open year-round, with the shop and activities closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and on Wednesdays from November through February. Off-season paddling and zipline availability can be limited, so calling ahead is recommended.
Hunters use surrounding wildlife management units in cooler months. During the main hunting season, from Thanksgiving to mid-February, wearing fluorescent orange is recommended when traveling on trails away from the developed recreation areas. Burn bans can also affect campfires during dry spells.

We absolutely loved staying in John's RV. If you are worried about the AC not being cold enough, have no fear, it works wonderfully even in Florida's heat. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful RV. If we need to rent again, we will absolutely be reaching out.

How to book campgrounds near Allentown
Public campgrounds inside Blackwater River State Park and the state forest are booked through the Florida State Parks and Florida State Forests reservation systems, both powered by ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made for the current day and up to 11 months in advance. For Blackwater River State Park, reservations are available on the Florida State Parks reservations website or by phone at 800-326-3521 (TDD 888-433-0287).
Private resorts such as Sunburst RV Resort, Hidden Lake Resort, Vacay Village of Pensacola, and Splash RV Resort & Waterpark are booked directly through each property. At Adventures Unlimited, guests can contact the office by phone or book directly through the website; if making plans within 48 hours of arrival, a phone call is required. Full payment is required at the time of booking to confirm a reservation.
What to expect on-site
Public campgrounds in the state park and forest offer full or partial hookups depending on the site. Each site at Blackwater River State Park offers full hookups with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric service, potable water, and sewer connections. Every site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, with spacious gravel pads accommodating tents up to 50-foot RVs. The campground features a well-maintained restroom building with flush toilets and hot showers, plus a dump station on the campground road. State forest sites at Karick Lake and similar recreation areas typically have electric and water plus a dump station, but not sewer at each site.
Expect sandy soil, pine and hardwood shade, and rural roads. Access roads to some private campgrounds are sandy, which can be challenging during rainy conditions, so a vehicle with decent ground clearance helps. Cell service is spotty in the forest. Alligators are present in area waters, and posted swimming rules should be followed.

Pro tip: booking a Sunday-through-Thursday trip often saves 15 to 20 percent versus weekends.
visitflorida.com/places-to-go/northwest/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Allentown, FL?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Allentown, FL. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels you'd find on RVezy. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly in, usually for under $25. That's it, you're cleared to roll out on your Allentown RV trip.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/What protection is included when I rent an RV in Allentown, FL?
Every booking on RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV and gives you real financial peace of mind on your Allentown RV trip, whether you are heading down to Pensacola Beach or up into Blackwater River State Forest. During checkout, you choose the level of coverage that fits your trip: Basic, Standard, or Premium, so the decision stays in your hands, not the host's. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, so help is always one call away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change, can I cancel my RV rental in Allentown, FL?
Yes, booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy (hosts do not set this themselves), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can change your mind without penalty. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so your trip plans stay protected. You can review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Allentown rigs, you can always adjust later within the policy window.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Allentown, FL?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Allentown. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see rigs that welcome four-legged co-pilots, sometimes with a small cleaning fee set by the host. Once you are on the road, your dog will love the area: Blackwater River State Park has shaded, leash-friendly trails about 20 minutes from Allentown, and Navarre Beach Dog Park (about 45 minutes south) is a popular Gulf Coast option for off-leash play. Message the host before booking if you want to confirm size or breed details. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Florida humidity is no joke for pups.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental house?
Yes, RV delivery in Allentown is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts in Santa Rosa County will tow or drive the rig directly to your campsite, vacation rental, or even a friend's driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Popular delivery destinations include Blackwater River State Park, Adventures Unlimited near Milton, and Navarre Beach RV Resort. Just use the Delivery filter when searching. Pro tip: delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, so booking a host closer to Allentown saves money.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/blackwater-river-state-parkHow many miles do I get with my Allentown RV rental?
Most Allentown hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance, typically 100 to 150 free miles per day, with extra miles available at around $0.30 to $0.50 each. From Allentown you're about 35 miles to Pensacola Beach, 70 miles to Destin, 110 miles to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and roughly 200 miles to Panama City Beach, so a 150-mile-per-day allowance comfortably covers most Panhandle adventures. Pro tip: map your route before booking and message hosts if you need a custom mileage package, many will adjust for multi-day trips.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhere are the best campgrounds near Allentown, FL?
You have great options for RV camping in Allentown. Blackwater River State Park (about 20 minutes south, near Holt) offers shaded sites along one of Florida's clearest sand-bottom rivers, with electric and water hookups. Adventures Unlimited Outdoor Center in Milton is well known for tubing and creekside sites along Coldwater Creek. Coldwater Gardens, also in Milton, is a quieter eco-retreat with full-hookup options. For Gulf views, Navarre Beach Camping Resort (45 minutes south) sits on Santa Rosa Sound. Emerald Beach RV Park in Navarre is another waterfront favorite. Pro tip: Florida State Parks open reservations 11 months in advance, so book Blackwater River sites the moment your dates lock in.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/blackwater-river-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to plan an Allentown RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Allentown is mid-March through May and again from late September through November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s and 80s and humidity drops. Winters here are mild (50s and 60s most days), making Allentown a fantastic snowbird-season destination when northern parks are buried in snow. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid with highs in the low 90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but rigs come well-equipped with air conditioning. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, so keep an eye on forecasts. Pro tip: October is the local insider favorite, warm rivers, fewer crowds, and golden light over the longleaf pine forests.
weather.gov/mob/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, and Allentown is one of the friendliest places to learn. The rural Highway 87 corridor and the open back roads through Santa Rosa County have light traffic and gentle terrain, perfect for first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup: how to level the rig, switch between propane and electric, dump tanks, and run the awning. If you'd rather skip the driving entirely, book a host who offers delivery and setup. Once parked at a campground like Blackwater River State Park, you can leave the RV in place and explore by car. Pro tip: practice a few turns in a quiet lot before heading out, you'll feel like a pro in 20 minutes.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so help is one phone call away whether you've got a flat tire on Highway 87, a dead battery at Blackwater River State Park, or a tow need outside Milton. RVezy's support team is also available before, during, and after your trip to coordinate solutions with your host. Most issues, lockouts, jump-starts, tire changes, are resolved within a couple of hours in the Panhandle thanks to dense service coverage along I-10. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number in your phone, it speeds up any roadside call.
fdot.gov/traffic/its/projects-deploy/road-rangers.shtmCan I take my Allentown RV on a road trip to other states?
Absolutely, an RV road trip from Allentown opens up the entire Gulf Coast. You are about 35 miles from Pensacola, 110 miles from Gulf Shores, Alabama, 200 miles from New Orleans, Louisiana, and roughly 650 miles from the Florida Keys. Cross-state travel is allowed on RVezy rentals across the United States, and your protection plan applies throughout U.S. travel. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy booking. If you would like to dip into Canada, message the host first to confirm. Pro tip: the coastal drive from Pensacola to Mobile is a scenic two-day loop with multiple beach campgrounds along the way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Allentown RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable, but it's manageable in this part of Florida. Travel trailers towed by a half-ton truck average 10 to 14 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and big Class A coaches run 6 to 9 mpg. Florida gas prices in the Panhandle tend to sit slightly below the national average, and Allentown is conveniently close to lower-priced stations along Interstate 10 in Milton and Pace. For a typical 4-day loop down to Pensacola Beach and back (around 200 miles), budget roughly $80 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Milton before heading into Navarre, beach-area pumps run 20 to 40 cents higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Allentown?
For the best campgrounds near Allentown, FL, book as soon as your dates are firm. Florida State Parks (including Blackwater River State Park) open reservations 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica's Florida State Parks portal, and the most popular waterfront sites for spring and fall weekends fill within hours of opening. Private parks like Santa Rosa RV Resort and Navarre Beach Camping Resort book up 3 to 6 months out for peak season (March through May and October). For summer trips, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 11 months before your target arrival date, that's when state park inventory drops.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservations-informationWhat are local driving conditions like around Allentown?
Driving an RV around Allentown is refreshingly easy. The area sits along Highway 87, a two-lane rural route through gently rolling longleaf pine country with light traffic and no mountains or tight switchbacks. Watch for low-hanging branches on some county roads, occasional deer at dawn and dusk, and brief but heavy afternoon thunderstorms in summer, which can reduce visibility for 15 to 20 minutes before clearing. Hurricane evacuation routes (I-10 and US-29) are well-marked and run inland from the coast. Avoid the Pensacola Bay Bridge and downtown Pensacola during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m., 4 to 6 p.m.). Pro tip: in summer, plan to be parked by 3 p.m. to dodge the daily storm window.

Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit on your first trip, the small added cost is worth a stress-free start.
visitflorida.com/places-to-go/northwest/santa-rosa/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking, no cash, no awkward handoffs with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip starts, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value, and it is released after the rig comes back in the same condition it left. Fuel, propane refills, and any extra-mileage charges are settled at the end of the trip. To avoid issues, do a thorough pre-trip walkthrough with the host and take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer. Pro tip: return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels you started with, and your deposit is released back to your card shortly after the trip ends.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the top road trip destinations from Allentown, FL?
Allentown is a great launchpad for a Florida Panhandle adventure. Pensacola Beach (about 35 miles, 45 minutes) delivers sugar-white sand and is home to the Blue Angels at NAS Pensacola. Destin and the Emerald Coast (about 70 miles) offer turquoise water and family beachfronts. Gulf Shores, Alabama (about 110 miles, 2 hours) adds Gulf State Park and great seafood. Blackwater River State Forest (just 15 miles) is the local favorite for paddling and family-friendly trails. Panama City Beach (about 150 miles) rounds out a longer loop.
