RV camping near Bonifay, Florida
Bonifay sits in Holmes County in the Florida Panhandle, roughly halfway between Tallahassee and Pensacola along Interstate 10. The area is rural and spring-fed, with pine forests, sinkholes, and clear-water creeks that draw RV travelers looking for a quieter alternative to the Gulf Coast beach towns.
Campground options within a short drive range from state-park sites to private resorts. Falling Waters State Park Campground serves as the base camp for Florida's only waterfall and offers 24 sites on gravel and milled asphalt pads roughly 50 feet long by 24 feet wide, with water and 20/30/50-amp electric hookups and full sewer at select sites. Nearby, Outback Springs RV Resort and Holmes Creek Camping & RV Resort cater to full-hookup travelers, while Ponce de Leon RV Park and Vortex Spring Adventures put guests within a short drive of cold, clear springs.
Most parks in this corridor stay open year-round, making Bonifay a practical stop for snowbirds heading south in winter or families chasing spring runs in summer.
Things to do around Bonifay
A boardwalk trail at Falling Waters State Park leads to an overlook of the state's tallest waterfall, a 73-foot cascade that drops into a cylindrical sinkhole, winding past additional sinkholes and pine uplands. The park also has a small spring-fed lake with a sandy beach for swimming and an accessible fishing pier. The falls depend entirely on rainfall, so flow is strongest in the wet summer months and can disappear during dry spells.
Vortex Spring Adventures maintains a steady 68-degree water temperature year-round and is recognized as the largest diving facility in the state of Florida, with a 200-foot basin used for swimming, snorkeling, paddling, and open-water and cave dive training. Holmes Creek, a tributary of the Choctawhatchee River, is a state-designated paddling trail with more than 15 springs along its length, making it a popular kayak trip.
Ponce de Leon Springs State Park, Cypress Springs, and the town of Bonifay itself round out day trips, and Panama City Beach is within about an hour's drive.

Summer is hot, humid, and wet. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and the falls at Falling Waters run strongest during this period since flow depends on rainfall. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in September.

How to book campgrounds near Bonifay
Reservations for Falling Waters State Park are made through the Florida State Parks reservation system, with Florida residents booking up to 11 months in advance and non-residents up to 10 months in advance. Bookings can be made online at the Florida State Parks reservations website or by phone at 800-326-3521. The 24-site campground fills quickly on weekends and holidays, so setting a reminder for the exact opening date is worthwhile.
Private parks including Outback Springs RV Resort, Holmes Creek Camping & RV Resort, and Ponce de Leon RV Park take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and many also list availability on aggregators. Vortex Spring Adventures books lodging, RV sites, and dive passes through its own front desk. Older rigs may need to be approved in advance at some private parks.
What to expect on-site
At Falling Waters State Park, all 24 sites include water and 20/30/50-amp electric hookups, sites 1-7 and 16-21 add full sewer, and each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. The campground has a full-service bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets, plus a dump station for sites without sewer. Sites sit in a shaded upland longleaf pine forest, and some back-in sites can be tight for the longest rigs.
Private parks in the area typically offer full hookups, longer pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Cell coverage is generally solid along the I-10 corridor but can thin out on backroads toward the springs. Expect warm-weather insects in summer and a mix of long-term and short-stay guests. Pets are widely allowed on leash.
