Campgrounds and RV parks near Brent, FL

Beach days are the main draw. The white sands of Gulf Islands National Seashore are a place for a long walk or an afternoon on the beach, and the warm Gulf waters are good for swimming and snorkeling. A fishing pier near Fort Pickens is open to visitors without a Florida fishing license, and hiking trails run through the dunes and maritime forest. History and aviation round out the trip. Historic Fort Pickens, a pentagonal fort built to defend Pensacola Bay in 1834, sits about one mile from the campground and was one of four forts in the South never occupied by Confederates during the Civil War. The National Naval Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola, downtown Pensacola's historic district, and Perdido Key are all within easy reach of Brent-area RV parks. Fort Pickens is also the northern terminus of the Florida National Scenic Trail, whose southern terminus lies roughly 1,300 miles south at the Big Cypress National Preserve.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV windows. March through May brings warm, mostly pleasant beach weather with average highs climbing from the low 70s into the low 80s Fahrenheit, and October delivers some of the year's clearest skies and lower humidity after summer. Mid-September through October is a strong time to visit Pensacola because spring breakers and family vacationers have departed, leaving beaches, attractions, and restaurants without peak-season crowds. Summer is hot, humid, and stormy. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September, and Pensacola sits directly on the Gulf in the Florida Panhandle, making it one of the more hurricane-vulnerable stretches of coast. Book barrier-island sites with a flexible cancellation plan during those months, and monitor National Hurricane Center advisories. Winter is the quiet season. Pensacola is cooler than South Florida in winter, with average January highs around 61 Fahrenheit and occasional freezes overnight, so it draws fewer long-stay snowbirds than the peninsula. Expect open availability at most private RV parks and mild, damp days between cold fronts.

Fort Pickens is a full-service federal campground on a barrier island. It contains 137 family sites with electricity (20, 30, and 50 amp) and water hookups, 40 non-electric tent sites, one non-electric group tent site with water, plus 6 wheelchair-accessible sites with electricity and 2 without. Amenities include flush toilets, heated showers, drinking water, and a dump station, and there are no boat ramps in the Fort Pickens area. Some practical rules matter for RV planning. Campers may not stay in the campground more than 14 consecutive days, and the policy is strictly enforced. Many sites have restrictions from low limbs or bushes, so pick a site that will accommodate all of your equipment. Pets are not allowed on any beach within Gulf Islands National Seashore. Private parks closer to Brent typically offer paved pads, full hookups, laundry, and easier big-rig access than the barrier island.
