Campgrounds and RV parks near Chattahoochee, FL

Lake Seminole is the main draw. The 37,500-acre lake has a 376-mile shoreline in three states, Georgia, Florida and Alabama, with more than 22,000 acres of surrounding land set aside for boating, camping, hunting and world-class fishing. The lake is known for excellent freshwater fishing with largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, bluegill, speckled perch and bream. Boat ramps are available at both Three Rivers State Park and Seminole State Park, and campers can launch from a boat ramp to enjoy some of the best freshwater fishing in the state or fish from a 100-foot pier in the camping area at Three Rivers. Hikers head to Torreya State Park for rugged trails through ravines and hardwood forest along the Apalachicola River bluffs. The shortest trail in the park, the Weeping Ridge Trail, is only a mile round-trip, but is one of Florida's most rugged nature trails, a steeply sloped drop to a trickling waterfall. The park also protects the rare Torreya conifer and offers guided tours of the historic Gregory House. Families can rent canoes or kayaks, watch for gopher tortoises and bald eagles, or drive to Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna, about 20 minutes from Sneads, for cave tours.

The Chattahoochee area has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The warmest months are July and August, with average highs near 90°F. Humidity is high and afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily in midsummer. August is the month with the most rainfall, with rain falling for about 26 days and accumulating around 5.28 inches. Summer is also peak Atlantic hurricane season, and both Torreya and Three Rivers state parks are still recovering from Hurricane Michael's damage. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and the best hardwood color in Florida, concentrated at Torreya. November is the driest month, with rain falling for about 8 days and typically collecting 1.46 inches. Spring wildflowers and moderate temperatures make March and April popular, so booking early is smart. Winter is mild but can be genuinely cool. January is the coldest month, with the lowest average low around 42.8°F. Occasional freezes occur, campgrounds around Lake Seminole stay open year-round, and cooler weather thins the crowds and cuts back the mosquitoes.

Three Rivers State Park has 30 campsites with water and electric hookups, a picnic table, and a ground grill, accommodating RVs up to 50 feet in length. A dump station is available on-site, though there are no sewer hookups at individual sites. Sites sit on a hard-pack red clay surface, and all sites have a view of Lake Seminole. The campground is remote, with weak cell signal and no in-park internet. The Weeping Ridge Loop at Torreya offers 30 well-shaded sites with water and electric hookups, with sites 1-16 on 30-amp service and sites 17-30 on 50-amp. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with centrally located flush restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station near the entrance. Pets are welcome in the campground, and the maximum RV length is 60 feet. Seminole State Park in Georgia has lakeside sites and cottages with a swimming beach and full-facility campground. Pets are welcome on leash at all three state parks, and rangers warn about alligators in the lakes and snakes on wooded trails.
