Campgrounds near Newberry, Florida
Newberry sits in north-central Florida west of Gainesville, within easy driving distance of the Santa Fe River corridor and its concentration of freshwater springs. The area draws RV travelers looking for warm-water swimming, paddling, and forested state-park camping without the coastal congestion. Most campgrounds cluster around High Springs and Fort White, roughly 15 to 25 minutes north of town.
Options range from full-hookup private parks to primitive state-park sites. Travelers Campground and Breezy Acres RV Community serve travelers who want standard RV amenities close to US 27 and I-75. Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park features 23 campsites: 16 for RV or tent camping with 30-amp service and seven tent-only. Ginnie Springs Outdoors, LLC is a large privately run spring and campground popular with paddlers and divers.
River Rise Preserve State Park Equestrian Camp, located on U.S. 27 just outside High Springs, offers primitive campsites, a bathhouse, and a 20-stall horse barn, with registration handled through the O'Leno State Park ranger station.
Things to do near Newberry
The main draw is the springs. Gilchrist Blue Springs holds a constant 72 degrees year-round, which makes swimming, snorkeling, and paddling viable in every season. The main springhead and spring run at Gilchrist Blue Springs are popular for paddling, snorkeling, and swimming, and Ginnie Springs Outdoors is a well-known tubing and cave-diving destination on the Santa Fe River.
On land, equestrians, hikers, and fat-tire cyclists can explore trails at River Rise Preserve State Park Equestrian Camp and the connected O'Leno unit. Anglers fish the Santa Fe for bass and panfish, and Gainesville's museums and the University of Florida campus are a short drive east for a rainy-day plan.

December - February
66° / 46°F 80 mmDriest, coolest stretch; occasional freezes possible.
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Florida. Daytime temperatures are warm without the peak humidity of summer, and afternoon thunderstorms are less frequent. State-park sites fill fastest on weekends and around spring break, so booking early matters.
Summer is hot and wet. August is typically the wettest month, and afternoon storms are a near-daily pattern from June through September. The springs stay cool regardless, which is why weekend day-use crowds peak in these months. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and can force short-notice itinerary changes.
Winter is the driest and coolest stretch. Highs in the Gainesville area average in the mid to upper 60s Fahrenheit from December through February, with overnight lows in the mid-40s to around 50. Freezes are occasional but real, so RVers should be ready to protect hoses on the coldest nights.

How to book near Newberry
State-park sites in this area use the Florida State Parks reservation system, which accepts bookings up to 11 months in advance. Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park has 23 campsites, and reservations can be made through the Florida State Parks reservation website or by calling 800-326-3521. Sites are limited, so weekends and holidays should be booked well ahead.
River Rise Preserve State Park Equestrian Camp is registered through the O'Leno State Park ranger station, with walk-ins accepted on a first-come, first-served basis when space allows. Ginnie Springs Outdoors, LLC, Travelers Campground, and Breezy Acres RV Community handle bookings directly through their own offices or websites, and Ginnie Springs typically requires advance reservations on holiday weekends.
What to expect near Newberry
Expect a mix of hookup levels. Private parks like Travelers Campground and Breezy Acres RV Community offer standard water, electric, and sewer service. State-park sites are more basic. Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park provides 30-amp service at RV sites, and the equestrian camp at River Rise Preserve is primitive, with a bathhouse but no hookups at sites.
Cell coverage in the spring country is spotty, and there are stretches with limited or no service around Gilchrist Blue Springs. Bring drinking water, plan for shared bathhouses at some parks, and expect insects, especially in warm months. Wildlife around the springs includes turtles, sunfish, bass, catfish, and the occasional alligator on the river.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Newberry, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Newberry, FL?
An RV rental in Newberry, FL is one of the more affordable ways to explore North Central Florida's springs country. On RVezy, towable trailers typically average around $100 to $175 per night, while motorhomes generally range from $200 to $325 per night, and many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts. A cheap RV rental in Newberry is easier to find midweek or in the shoulder season, and you can filter by price to match your budget. Pro tip: book a travel trailer with delivery to Ginnie Springs or O'Leno State Park, skip the tow vehicle, and put the savings toward tubing and snorkeling gear.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Newberry%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Newberry, FL?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Newberry. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. You must be at least 25 years old, and RVezy will verify your ID securely through the platform during booking. International visitors should grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home auto club before arriving. Most first-timers are surprised how straightforward it is, and your host will walk you through everything at pickup.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/Is insurance and roadside assistance included with my Newberry RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Newberry, FL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with peace of mind. You choose the protection level that fits your trip during checkout, and coverage helps protect against damage to the RV. If you get a flat on I-75 heading toward Gainesville or need a battery jump at your campsite near Ginnie Springs, one call to roadside dispatches help. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides strong financial protection so a small surprise does not derail your Florida adventure.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Newberry RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a standard cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, and the refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy works with guests on refunds or rebooking credits. Florida's hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so it is smart to monitor the National Hurricane Center if booking in that window. Full cancellation details are available in the RVezy Help Center and in your booking confirmation, so you can reserve your Newberry RV rental today with clarity about your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Newberry RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Newberry, FL is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many of the best nearby spots love four-legged guests too: O'Leno State Park allows leashed pets in the campground, Poe Springs Park has pet-friendly trails, and the Nature Coast State Trail running through Trenton is a fantastic leashed-dog walk. Note that Florida State Parks don't allow pets in designated swimming areas, so plan a pup-friendly hike at Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park instead. Bring a tie-out, water bowl, and shade tarp for warm afternoons.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Newberry?
Yes, RV delivery in Newberry is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow the RV directly to Ginnie Springs Outdoors, O'Leno State Park, Hart Springs Park, or even a private property, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is a game-changer if you don't have a truck capable of towing or if you're nervous about backing a trailer into a tight site. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host with your campground name and dates to confirm the delivery fee, which is typically based on round-trip distance.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/olenostateparkHow does mileage work and how far can I drive from Newberry?
Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and you'll often find generous daily allowances or even RV rental with unlimited mileage right in the listing. Newberry sits at the crossroads of some of Florida's best road trips: Cedar Key beaches are about 50 miles southwest, St. Augustine's historic district is roughly 90 miles east, the Walt Disney World area is about 130 miles south, and Tampa is around 140 miles southwest. For an RV road trip from Newberry, the springs loop through High Springs, Fort White, and Branford racks up beautiful miles with minimal driving. Filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer Florida adventure.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhat are the best campgrounds near Newberry, FL?
You're spoiled for choice with RV camping in Newberry. The best campgrounds near Newberry include Ginnie Springs Outdoors in High Springs (private, crystal-clear springs, tubing, full hookups), O'Leno State Park in High Springs (shaded sites along the Santa Fe River with electric and water hookups), Hart Springs Park in Bell (county-run, full hookups, 72-degree spring swimming year-round), Ichetucknee Springs area campgrounds in Fort White (close to tubing on the Ichetucknee), and Williston Crossings RV Resort in Williston (resort-style with pool and pickleball). Each is within 30 to 45 minutes of Newberry. Pro tip: book Florida State Park sites the moment your 11-month reservation window opens.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/olenostateparkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Newberry, FL?
Newberry's sweet spot is October through April, when daytime highs sit in a perfect 65 to 80 degree range, humidity drops, and mosquitoes are sparse. This is prime time for RV camping in Newberry because the springs stay a refreshing 72 degrees year-round while the air feels comfortable. Summer (June through September) brings 90-plus degree heat, high humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms, but it's also peak tubing season at Ichetucknee Springs, so just plan for early starts and AC-friendly campsites with 50-amp hookups. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so check the National Hurricane Center before booking trips in that window.
weather.gov/jax/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Newberry?
You've got this, and Newberry is actually one of the friendliest places in Florida for first time renting an RV. The roads around town (CR 235, SR 26, and SR 45) are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked compared to coastal Florida. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, and the dump valves, and you can text them with questions during your trip. If parking lots make you nervous, choose a host who offers delivery so the RV arrives set up at your campground. Practice in an empty lot near Newberry High School before heading to I-75, and you'll feel confident within an hour.
fdot.gov/safetyWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Newberry trip?
Take a deep breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-27, a dead battery at O'Leno State Park, or a tow off I-75 is one phone call away. Your host is also your direct lifeline for RV-specific quirks like resetting the inverter or restarting the fridge. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup, snap a photo of the RV's VIN, and you will be ready for whatever North Central Florida throws your way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Newberry rental RV on a road trip to other states or Canada?
Yes, most RVezy hosts in Newberry allow interstate travel, which makes a Florida RV adventure feel limitless. Popular routes head north to Savannah, GA (about 240 miles) and the Great Smoky Mountains (around 550 miles), or south through the Keys (around 450 miles to Key West). Cross-border travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the host and insurance, so message them through the listing before booking to confirm. Important: travel to Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Confirm out-of-state plans in writing with your host so everyone's aligned on mileage and routes.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat's fuel like for an RV in the Newberry area?
Fuel is refreshingly manageable here. Florida gas prices typically run close to the national average, and Newberry has convenient stations along SR 26, US-27, and at the I-75 exits in nearby Jonesville and Gainesville. Plan for roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) on Class A and Class C motorhomes, 12 to 18 MPG on a campervan rental in Newberry, and around 14 to 18 MPG combined when towing a travel trailer with a half-ton truck. Pro tip: the Pilot Travel Center at I-75 Exit 399 in Lake City and the Murphy USA in Jonesville both have lanes wide enough for big rigs, and the GasBuddy app saves real money on longer Florida loops.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Newberry?
Book early and you will thank yourself. Florida State Parks like O'Leno, Manatee Springs, and Ichetucknee Springs open reservations 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime October-through-April weekend sites often fill within minutes. For Ginnie Springs Outdoors, reserve 2 to 3 months out for spring break and summer weekends. Private parks like Williston Crossings RV Resort usually have availability 2 to 4 weeks out, even in season. If you are a planner, book your motorhome rental in Newberry and your campground together. If you are spontaneous, target Sunday through Thursday nights when sites open up consistently.
floridastateparks.org/park/olenoWhat are driving conditions like around Newberry?
Driving an RV around Newberry is about as easy as it gets in Florida. The terrain is flat, the main routes (SR 26, SR 45, US-27, and CR 235) are wide rural highways with light traffic, and there are no mountain passes or tight switchbacks to worry about. Watch for two specific things: summer afternoon thunderstorms that drop visibility fast (pull off and wait 20 minutes), and deer at dawn and dusk on CR 235 north toward High Springs. I-75 through Gainesville can get busy on University of Florida game days, so plan around home football Saturdays. Otherwise, expect a relaxed, scenic drive through horse country and oak canopy roads.
fdot.gov/trafficWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Newberry?
Newberry-area campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable RV trip. Expect 30 and 50 amp electric, potable water fill stations, and dump stations at almost every park including O'Leno State Park, Hart Springs Park, and Williston Crossings RV Resort. Many sites at private parks like Ginnie Springs Outdoors and Travelers Campground offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer at your site). Bathhouses are clean and well-maintained, and most parks have laundry, a camp store, and Wi-Fi near the office. For dumping between trips, the Alachua County Solid Waste facility and several RV-friendly gas stations along US-27 offer paid dump access. Fill water tanks before leaving for any spring-area boondocking.
floridastateparks.org/learn/campingWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Newberry?
You'll be impressed by how livable a Newberry RV rental really is. Most listings come fully stocked with a queen or king bed, sleeper sofa or dinette conversion, kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, stove, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, roof and dash air conditioning (essential for Florida), and seatbelts for safe travel. Many hosts include a TV, generator, outdoor speakers, and a starter kit with linens, pots, and pans. Wi-Fi is usually via your phone hotspot since coverage is good around Newberry on Verizon and AT&T. Check each listing's amenity list, and message the host if you need specific gear like a bike rack or kayak mounts.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options are available for Newberry rentals?
RVezy hosts in Newberry offer thoughtful add-ons that make life easier on a family RV trip in Newberry. Common extras include linen and towel packages ($30 to $75), camp chairs and tables, generators, propane refills, bike racks, kayak carriers, fire pits, and pet packages. Pickup is typically at the host's home or storage lot in Newberry, Jonesville, or nearby Gainesville, with delivery to springs-area campgrounds available from many hosts for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, so look at the daily allowance and per-mile overage rate before booking. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a linen package often costs less than buying everything separately.
visitgainesville.com/communities/newberry/How do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is smooth and secure. You pay through RVezy's platform with a credit card during booking, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. A separate refundable security deposit is held before pickup (the amount is shown on the listing and varies by RV value) and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good condition with fuel and tanks handled as agreed. To avoid surprises, do a thorough walk-around video with your host at pickup and dropoff, return the RV on time, and follow the listing's fuel, propane, and dump tank requirements.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first-time itinerary for an RV trip from Newberry?
Here's a crowd-pleasing 4-day loop perfect for first-timers: Day 1, pick up your RV and head 20 minutes north to Ginnie Springs Outdoors for tubing, snorkeling, and a riverside campfire. Day 2, drive 30 minutes to O'Leno State Park for hiking the Santa Fe River sink and a quiet, shaded campsite. Day 3, roll 45 minutes west to Hart Springs Park or Manatee Springs State Park in Chiefland, where manatees gather in winter. Day 4, swing through Dudley Farm Historic State Park just outside Newberry on your way back. Total driving is under 120 miles, so fuel costs stay low and you maximize swimming, paddling, and front-porch RV time.
