Campgrounds near Ferry Pass, Florida
Ferry Pass is a census-designated place in Escambia County, just northeast of downtown Pensacola. It sits within the Pensacola metropolitan area, which covers Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and includes nearby communities such as Bellview, Ensley, Brent, Gulf Breeze, and Milton. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of Gulf Coast beaches, the Blackwater River corridor, and Interstate 10 for onward travel.
RV options in the immediate area lean toward private, full-hookup parks rather than public campgrounds. Drifters RV Park, Five Flags RV Park, Pensacola RV Park, and Vacay Village of Pensacola sit on the mainland side and work well as base camps for day trips to the coast. Florida Park Pensacola offers another mainland option with quick access to US-29 and I-110.
Pensacola Beach is about 15 miles south, Gulf Shores Alabama is roughly 45 miles west, and Destin is about 50 miles east, so most Panhandle attractions are within a comfortable day-trip radius from any Ferry Pass base.
Things to do near Ferry Pass
The dominant draw is the coast. Fort Pickens sits on Santa Rosa Island as part of Gulf Islands National Seashore south of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, and the seashore is known for its emerald waters, white beaches, and historical landscapes. A fishing pier near Fort Pickens, hiking trails through the dunes, and the historic pentagonal fort built to defend Pensacola Bay in 1834 sit within a short distance of the campground.
Inland options round out a family itinerary. The National Museum of Naval Aviation holds a large collection of restored military aircraft along with flight simulators and an IMAX theater. Blackwater River State Park offers canoeing, kayaking, and tubing along scenic river routes. Downtown Pensacola adds Spanish-colonial history, seafood restaurants, and waterfront parks.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel in the Pensacola area. Days run warm, humidity is manageable, and beach crowds are lighter than in peak summer. Florida State Park sites along the coast can book out fast for these shoulder months, so plan reservations early.
Summer is hot, humid, and busy. Afternoon thunderstorms are routine and can move in quickly, which matters when awnings are out or when driving Interstate 110 into downtown. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so plan around any tropical systems. Named storms occasionally force closures at coastal parks with little notice.
Winter is mild by North American standards but not tropical. Freezing temperatures happen sporadically at Pensacola, and once every two or three years a night drops down to 20 F or even lower. Snowbirds fill many private parks from January through March, so monthly rates and long-stay sites often need to be reserved months ahead.

We absolutely loved staying in John's RV. If you are worried about the AC not being cold enough, have no fear, it works wonderfully even in Florida's heat. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful RV. If we need to rent again, we will absolutely be reaching out.

How to book a campsite
Public campgrounds in the region use two main systems. Florida State Parks such as Big Lagoon allow campsite reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and beachfront spots in spring and summer often go quickly. Fort Pickens Campground, part of Gulf Islands National Seashore, is booked through Recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window.
At Fort Pickens, reservation holders must be 18 or older, stays are capped at 14 consecutive days, and Gulf Islands entrance fees are required and cover seven consecutive days from purchase.
Private parks such as Drifters RV Park, Five Flags RV Park, Pensacola RV Park, Florida Park Pensacola, and Vacay Village of Pensacola take direct bookings by phone or website. For weekends around holidays, spring break, and the Blue Angels air-show weekends, reserve as far ahead as possible.
What to expect on arrival
Most campgrounds within 30 miles of Ferry Pass offer a strong hookup experience: 30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water, and either sewer at the site or a central dump station. Big Lagoon State Park provides 30/50 amp electric and water at its 75 RV sites plus an on-site dump station and three full-service restrooms, while Fort Pickens offers electric and water sites with a dump station on the loop. Private parks in the Pensacola area typically add Wi-Fi, laundry, and pool access.
Expect sandy soil, pine cover, and mosquitoes after dusk from spring through fall. Insect repellent, an outdoor mat, and a rinse hose for sandy feet all earn their keep.
Pets are common at private parks but restricted at federal sites. Pets are not allowed on beaches, ferries, piers, in forts, batteries, pavilions, or inside any of the facilities within Gulf Islands National Seashore, so plan pet care around any beach days at Fort Pickens.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ferry Pass, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ferry Pass, FL?
RV rental in Ferry Pass, FL is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Gulf Coast. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, while motorhomes generally run $150 to $275 per night depending on size, age, and season. Spring break in March and peak summer beach season push prices toward the high end, so for a cheaper RV rental Ferry Pass travelers love, target shoulder months like late September, October, or early December when Gulf weather is still great and demand drops. Many hosts on RVezy offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so a 5 night trip to Perdido Key or Navarre Beach can stretch your budget further. Book early for Blue Angels show weekends, which fill up fast.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferry%20Pass%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Ferry Pass, FL?
Good news: a regular Florida or home state driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ferry Pass, FL. There is no commercial driver's license, special endorsement, or RV class required for Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or most Class A motorhomes available on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old and must verify their ID through the RVezy platform during booking, which takes only a few minutes. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit from your local auto association before your trip. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the requirements are, so you can focus on planning your Pensacola Beach sunset instead.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included with my booking?
Yes, every RV rental in Ferry Pass, FL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Interstate 10 or Gulf Beach Highway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level at checkout based on how much cushion you want on your security deposit. Hosts do not set the protection level, you do. Roadside help covers flat tires, lockouts, jump starts, fuel delivery, and towing, whether you are parked at Big Lagoon State Park or rolling toward Destin. It is the kind of safety net that makes saying yes to your first RV trip easy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Ferry Pass RV rental?
Booking your Ferry Pass RV trip is low risk because RVezy sets a standard, platform-wide cancellation policy, not individual hosts. There is a grace period right after booking, and the refund amount after that window depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. Because the policy is consistent across listings, you will not see a different cancellation policy displayed on each RV. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook with credit. If a named storm or hurricane is forecast to affect the Florida Panhandle, contact RVezy support early so they can walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Ferry Pass, FL?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Ferry Pass options are plentiful. Just check the Pet-Friendly filter when browsing RVezy listings to see RVs where dogs and cats are welcome. Many local hosts are pet owners themselves and may ask for a small refundable pet deposit or a one-time cleaning fee, all spelled out upfront on the listing. Once you arrive, you have great places to roam: Bayview Park's off-leash dog park in nearby Pensacola lets pups play along Bayou Texar, and Big Lagoon State Park welcomes leashed pets on most trails and in the campground, though not on swimming beaches. Bring a long lead, fresh water, and a shaded mat since Gulf sand gets hot. Your co-pilot is going to love this trip.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or vacation rental?
Yes, RV delivery in Ferry Pass is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow the travel trailer or drive the motorhome straight to your campsite at Big Lagoon State Park, Fort Pickens Campground on Santa Rosa Island, or a private driveway in nearby Pensacola, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees are typically a flat fee plus a per-mile charge, and many hosts deliver up to 30 to 60 miles. Filter for Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your address, and you can fly into Pensacola International Airport and find your RV waiting and ready.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferry%20Pass%2C%20FloridaHow far can I drive on a Ferry Pass RV trip and is mileage included?
Most Ferry Pass hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance, commonly 100 to 150 miles per day, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer RV road trip from Ferry Pass. The exact mileage policy and any per-mile overage fee are shown clearly on each listing before you book. For perspective: Pensacola Beach is about 15 miles south, Gulf Shores Alabama is roughly 45 miles west, Destin is 50 miles east, New Orleans is about 200 miles west, and Tallahassee is around 200 miles east on Interstate 10. If you are planning a big loop, filter for unlimited mileage listings or ask the host for a custom mileage add-on, most are happy to work with you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferry%20Pass%2C%20FloridaWhere are the best campgrounds near Ferry Pass for RV camping?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Ferry Pass. Big Lagoon State Park, about 20 miles southwest in Pensacola, offers RV sites with 30/50 amp electric and water for rigs up to 40 feet, plus an observation tower and kayak launch. Fort Pickens Campground on Santa Rosa Island, part of Gulf Islands National Seashore, has roughly 200 sites with electric and water between the Gulf and Pensacola Bay, about 30 miles south. Navarre Beach Camping Resort, about 25 miles east, is a Gulf-area favorite with full hookups. Adventures Unlimited in Milton, about 30 miles north, is a great base for tubing the Coldwater River. Book Big Lagoon through the Florida State Parks reservation system and Fort Pickens through Recreation.gov, ideally several months in advance.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/big-lagoon-state-parkWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Ferry Pass, FL?
Ferry Pass has a true year-round RV season thanks to its mild Gulf Coast climate. The sweet spot is March through May, when daytime highs typically run 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the Gulf starts warming up for swimming. Fall, from late September through November, is another local favorite, with 70 to 80 degree days, fewer crowds, and lower rental prices. Summer from June through August is hot and humid, often in the upper 80s to low 90s with afternoon thunderstorms, but it is prime beach season. Winters are mild, generally in the 50s to mid 60s, and are a snowbird favorite. Local tip: aim for early November to catch the Pensacola Interstate Fair and warm beach days without the summer heat.
weather.gov/mob/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting one in Ferry Pass really doable?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Ferry Pass is genuinely easier than most people expect, and you are not on your own. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to start the generator, dump the tanks, hook up shore power, level the rig, and operate the slide-outs and awning. The Ferry Pass area is forgiving for new drivers: roads like US-29, Nine Mile Road, and Interstate 10 are wide and straight, with plenty of large parking lots (like Cordova Mall) to practice turning before you head to the coast. If big-vehicle driving feels intimidating, ask your host about delivery to your campsite, which removes driving from the equation entirely. You will feel confident faster than you think.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Ferry Pass trip?
You are covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you have a flat tire on the Bob Sikes Bridge, a dead battery at Big Lagoon, or a mechanical issue heading toward Mobile, help is one phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch a tire change, jump start, lockout service, fuel delivery, or a tow to the nearest qualified RV repair shop. Your host is also a direct resource, most are local to the Ferry Pass and greater Pensacola area, know reliable mobile RV techs in Pensacola and Cantonment, and can troubleshoot quirks specific to their rig. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave, and keep a flashlight and basic toolkit handy just in case.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Ferry Pass RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate road trips are encouraged. A popular RV road trip from Ferry Pass might cross into Alabama for Gulf Shores and Mobile (about 45 to 60 miles west), continue to New Orleans (about 200 miles), or head east through Florida to Apalachicola and St. George Island (150 to 200 miles). Travel into Canada may be allowed with prior host approval and confirmation that protection coverage applies, so message your host before booking if that is the plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. A classic 7 day loop from Ferry Pass hits Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island, the Tallahassee Big Bend, and back via Interstate 10, all on smooth, RV-friendly highways.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Ferry Pass RV trip?
Fuel is one of the most predictable parts of your budget. Class B campervan rental Ferry Pass options typically get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer usually lands around 10 to 14 mpg. With Florida gas prices generally near the national average, a 300 mile round trip to Destin and back in a Class C might run roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Stations along US-29 often beat Interstate exit prices, and warehouse club fuel stations in the Pensacola area tend to be among the cheapest within a short drive of Ferry Pass. Fill up before you leave town to start the trip on the right foot.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ferry Pass?
Book early and you will have your pick of the best sites. Florida State Parks like Big Lagoon allow reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and beachfront spots in spring and summer often go within hours. Fort Pickens Campground on Santa Rosa Island opens 6 months out on Recreation.gov and is just as competitive. Private parks like Navarre Beach Camping Resort typically allow booking a year out. For shoulder season trips in October, early December, or late February, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually enough. Local tip: Blue Angels practice and air show weekends book up first, so target those dates early if you want to watch the jets.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/big-lagoon-state-parkWhat are driving conditions like around Ferry Pass for an RV?
Driving an RV around Ferry Pass is refreshingly straightforward. The terrain is flat, the highways are wide, and major routes like Interstate 10, US-29 (Pensacola Boulevard), and Nine Mile Road handle big rigs with ease. Watch the Pensacola Bay Bridge and the Bob Sikes Bridge to Pensacola Beach in high crosswinds, where gusts off the Gulf can push a tall motorhome. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so plan around any tropical systems, and afternoon summer thunderstorms can drop visibility quickly. Local tip: drive early morning and you will dodge both heat and traffic on Interstate 110 into downtown Pensacola. Check FL511 before you roll for any closures or construction.
fl511.com/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Ferry Pass?
Most campgrounds within 30 miles of Ferry Pass offer a strong hookup experience: 30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water, and either sewer at the site or a central dump station. Big Lagoon State Park provides water and electric at its RV sites plus a central dump station, while Fort Pickens offers electric and water sites with a dump station near the exit. Private parks like Navarre Beach Camping Resort add Wi-Fi, cable, pools, and laundry. To refill fresh water on the road, many Florida rest areas along Interstate 10 have potable water access. Bring a 25 foot drinking-safe hose and a 30-to-50 amp adapter, those two items solve most hookup surprises.

Expect real beds (often queen in Class C and travel trailers, plus convertible dinettes and bunks for kids), a kitchen with a propane stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, and sink, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, roof air conditioning (essential for Florida summers), and a furnace for cooler winter nights. Most rentals include a TV, many have a generator or solar for off-grid power, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Each RVezy listing spells out exact amenities, sleep count, and slide-outs so there are no surprises. Filter by sleeps count and AC to narrow down family RV trip Ferry Pass options fast.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferry%20Pass%2C%20FloridaHow do payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Ferry Pass, FL?
Payment is simple and secure: when you book your rent an RV in Ferry Pass trip on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released a few days after a successful return, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. The deposit amount depends on the protection plan you select at checkout, with higher coverage levels typically meaning a lower deposit. Avoid issues by completing the pre-trip walkthrough with your host, returning the RV with the agreed fuel and tank levels, and reporting any incident through the RVezy app right away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Ferry Pass?
You have plenty of legal overnight options for where to park an RV in Ferry Pass. The best bet is a developed campground like Big Lagoon State Park, Fort Pickens Campground, or a private RV park in the Pensacola area. Escambia County and the City of Pensacola restrict using an RV as a residence on private property, so check local zoning before parking overnight in a driveway. Some Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations along Interstate 10 traditionally permit one-night stays with manager approval, which is handy for travel days. If you are using delivery, your host arranges the legal overnight location for you, no guesswork. Then you can sit back and enjoy the Gulf breeze.
