Campgrounds near Madison, Florida
Madison sits in the rolling farm country of north Florida, roughly halfway between Tallahassee and Jacksonville along Interstate 10. The area is defined by the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers, springs like Madison Blue, and a cluster of RV parks that draw both snowbirds and families passing through on I-10. It works as a base for exploring Florida's Big Bend and its blue spring systems without the traffic of the coast or Orlando.
RV travelers have a mix of options within a short drive. Madison RV & Golf Resort and The Station RV Resort sit close to town with full hookup sites and resort-style amenities. Ragans Family Campground in Madison, Fl is the family-oriented pick, with a water park and on-site train. Deerwood Madison Campground and Motel offers a simpler layout for shorter stays.
For a public-land experience, Suwannee River State Park spans more than 1,800 acres across Suwannee, Madison, and Hamilton counties, sitting at the junction of the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers southeast of town. Note that its campground is temporarily closed for an upgrade project, so private parks are the practical RV choice for now.
Things to do near Madison
The Suwannee River is the main draw. Suwannee River State Park offers a boat launch, providing access to both the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers, opening the water to kayaks, canoes, and small boats, along with fishing from the bank. On land, the park has multiple hiking trails, including a 12.5-mile option alongside shorter walks along the Suwannee River and Lime Sink Run, plus paths past Confederate earthworks and the old townsite of Columbus.
Madison Blue Spring State Park, a short drive east, is a first-magnitude spring popular for swimming, snorkeling, and cave diving. Families staying at Ragans Family Campground in Madison, Fl have on-site water play and a small train. The Station RV Resort adds pickleball, bocce, cornhole, and a fenced dog park. Wild Adventures theme park in Valdosta, Georgia is roughly an hour north.

Winter is the practical peak for RV travel here. Days run mild and dry, snowbirds fill the private parks along I-10, and cooler nights occasionally dip near freezing. Book several weeks out from December through February, especially around the holidays.
Spring brings warm days, blooming dogwoods, and comfortable river paddling before the heat sets in. This is a strong window for hiking and swimming in the springs, which hold a steady temperature year-round. Bug pressure begins to climb in late spring.
Summer is hot, humid, and wet, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and daily highs around 91°F. August is the wettest month, when rain falls for about 26 days and typically aggregates to about 5.2 inches of precipitation. Hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in August and September, so watch forecasts if traveling along Florida's Gulf side. Fall cools off gradually and offers some of the driest, most pleasant weather of the year. November is the month with the least rainfall in Madison, with rain falling for about 7.5 days and accumulating around 1.22 inches.
How to book campgrounds near Madison
Suwannee River State Park is managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Recreation and Parks. As of June 3, 2026, the campground at Suwannee River State Park is closed to all reservations and walk-ins due to a campground upgrade project, with cabin walk-ins only being accepted. When the campground reopens, reservations are handled through the Florida State Parks reservations website or by calling 800-326-3521, and bookings can be made up to 11 months in advance. Maximum RV length is 45 feet.
Private parks including Madison RV & Golf Resort, The Station RV Resort, Ragans Family Campground in Madison, Fl, and Deerwood Madison Campground and Motel are booked directly through each property. Snowbird stays often lock up premium sites months in advance, so reserve as early as possible for January through March visits.
What to expect on arrival
Most private parks around Madison offer pull-through sites with 30 and 50-amp service, water, and sewer, plus Wi-Fi of varying reliability. Cell service can be spotty, with T-Mobile showing one bar and Verizon offering minimal coverage in the state park area. When the state park campground is open, the park has 30 campsites for tent and RV camping, each with a picnic table, grill, clothesline, 50 amp service, water, and sewer hookup, clustered under an oak canopy.
Park gates close at sunset, and late arrivals should contact the park prior to 5 p.m. on the day of arrival. Pets must be kept on a 6-foot leash at all times and are not permitted in park buildings or cabins. Groceries and fuel are easiest in Live Oak, about seven miles east along I-10, or in Madison itself for smaller runs.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Madison, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Madison, FL?
RV rental in Madison, FL is one of Florida's best values. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes run about $175 to $250 per night, and larger Class A coaches range from $250 to $400 per night. Because Madison sits at the I-10 and I-75 crossroads in North Florida, you'll find plenty of choice from local hosts. To find a cheap RV rental in Madison, book mid-week stays in late spring or early fall, filter by travel trailer for the lowest nightly rate, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: bundle delivery to a nearby spring like Madison Blue and the fuel you save often offsets the add-on fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Madison%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Madison, FL?
Good news: a regular Class E Florida driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or home-country license) is all you need to rent an RV in Madison, FL. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) for personal RVs under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club before you fly in. That's it. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the Madison RV rental process really is, and your host will walk you through the rig at pickup.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/Is RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?
Yes, every RV rental in Madison, FL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-10 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, and you choose the coverage level that fits your trip during booking (the plan is set by RVezy, not the host). Roadside assistance covers flat tires, lockouts, battery jumps, fuel delivery, and towing, which matters when you're exploring rural Madison County back roads or heading out to the Suwannee River. Pick your package, click book, and focus on the fun of your Madison RV trip.

Booking an RV rental in Madison is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, and it is not displayed inside listings. The policy includes a grace period right after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply based on how far in advance you cancel before your trip. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help rebook you or issue a refund or credit. For the full current details, review the cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you book so you can reserve your Madison RV trip with confidence.

Madison is a great dog destination: many local RV parks offer pet areas, and nearby Suwannee River State Park allows leashed pets on trails and at campsites (Florida State Parks require leashes 6 feet or shorter). Bring proof of vaccinations and plenty of water for hot afternoons. Pro tip: the spring-fed rivers in the area stay around 72 F year-round, perfect for a quick dog dip after a hike.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Madison?
Yes, RV delivery in Madison is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Tallahassee International Airport (about 55 miles west) or Valdosta Regional (about 60 miles north). Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up the RV right at your campsite, whether that's a private park in Madison County or Suwannee River State Park. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees typically range from about $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. It's the ultimate first-timer move: no towing stress, no setup learning curve, just arrive and enjoy your Madison RV trip.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/suwannee-river-state-parkHow does mileage work and what are realistic distances from Madison?
Most Madison hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overage fees typically $0.30 to $0.45 per mile, and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer Florida road trips. Plan smart: Tallahassee is about 55 miles west, Gainesville about 100 miles southeast, Jacksonville roughly 145 miles east, and the Gulf Coast at Steinhatchee around 65 miles south. If you're planning a bigger Florida loop, like Madison to St. Augustine and back (around 350 miles round trip), filter for hosts with higher mileage caps. Pro tip: message the host before booking and ask if they'll bump your included mileage for a small flat fee, many will, and that single message can save real money.

Summer (June to September) is hot and humid with highs in the low to mid-90s F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and it falls within Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), so watch forecasts closely. weather.gov/tae/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay in Madison?
You'll do great, and Madison is honestly one of the friendlier places in Florida to learn. The roads are flat, traffic is light outside of I-10 and I-75, and rural routes like US-90 and SR-14 have wide shoulders and gentle curves. Your RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, awnings, slide-outs, water, propane, and dump procedures, so you're never figuring it out alone. If a Class C or campervan rental in Madison feels more manageable than a 35-foot Class A, start there. Pro tip: do a practice loop through the parking lots near Madison County High School before heading to your campground. Twenty minutes of practice and you'll feel like a pro.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You're covered. Every RV rental in Madison through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on I-10 near the Suwannee River bridge, on a rural county road, or pulled into a campsite at Madison Blue Spring State Park. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after every trip if you have a question about the RV. For a 300-mile loop in a Class C at $3.30/gallon, budget around $100 in fuel. Pro tip: download GasBuddy before your trip and fuel up at the Madison or Lake Park, GA truck stops where diesel and gas typically run 10 to 20 cents cheaper than in-town stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Madison?

For Florida State Parks like Suwannee River State Park or Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center, reservations open up to 11 months in advance through the official Florida State Parks reservation system, and waterfront sites along the Suwannee fill quickly. Madison Blue Spring State Park is day-use only, so plan it as a side trip from your basecamp. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) often unlock the prettiest riverside sites, and you'll have the spring nearly to yourself.

The terrain is flat, roads are well-maintained, and the two main arteries (I-10 east-west and I-75 north-south, which meet just east of town) have wide lanes and frequent rest areas. Watch for occasional afternoon thunderstorms June through September that can drop visibility fast (pull off safely and wait 20 minutes, they pass quickly). Deer activity picks up at dusk on rural roads like SR-14 and US-221, so plan to arrive at your campground before dark. Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk August to October, always check the National Hurricane Center if a storm is named. Pro tip: avoid the I-75 stretch on Sunday evenings in winter when snowbirds head south in bulk.

Many hosts add generators or solar setups for off-grid stays at places like Suwannee River State Park where you might want extra power for the AC on warm days. Class C and Class A motorhomes have seatbelts for travel (only use seated belted positions while driving). Pro tip: message your host to confirm linens, towels, and a starter propane tank are included, most provide them as a courtesy or small add-on.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Madison offer flexible features to make your trip smoother. Common add-ons include delivery and setup ($2 to $4 per mile), generator use ($3 to $7 per hour beyond included hours), bike racks, kayak/SUP carriers (perfect for the Suwannee River), camping chairs and tables, linen and kitchen packages ($25 to $75), and pet cleaning fees if applicable. Mileage policies range from 100 miles per night to unlimited, and pickup times are typically flexible between 10 AM and 4 PM. Many hosts offer a discounted half-day return so you can shower and unload before heading home. Pro tip: ask about a propane top-off add-on at return, paying the host's flat rate is usually cheaper than searching for a refill station before drop-off.
visitflorida.com/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/How do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your Madison RV rental is straightforward and fully handled through the secure RVezy platform, with no cash or side deals with the host. You pay by credit or debit card at booking. A separate refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after a smooth return, usually within a few days. To avoid deposit issues, document the RV's condition with photos at pickup and drop-off, return it at the agreed fuel and propane level, and empty the holding tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: do the walkthrough video on your phone with your host present, it's the single best protection for both of you.
