Campgrounds and RV parks near Alamo, GA

Little Ocmulgee State Park is the main draw. Its lake supports fishing for largemouth bass, black crappie, bream, and chain pickerel, with a boat ramp, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and a sandy swim beach that typically opens in late May and closes in early September. Families use the splash pad, pool, playgrounds, and mini-golf, while the Wallace Adams Golf Course draws repeat visitors. Hikers can walk the park's 2.6-mile trail, which crosses river bottomland, sand hill, oak, and bay forest and includes a boardwalk through a cypress swamp. Watch for the gopher tortoise, Georgia's state reptile, and the protected eastern indigo snake. Off-park, the Ocmulgee and Little Ocmulgee rivers offer paddling and bank fishing, and the small towns of McRae-Helena and Dublin provide restaurants and local shops.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in this part of Georgia. From mid-March through May, daytime highs sit in the seventies and low eighties Fahrenheit, wildflowers bloom, and bass fishing peaks. Autumn from late September through November brings similar temperatures with lower humidity and fewer biting insects, and is generally the driest stretch of the year, with September and October standing out as the driest months. Summers are hot and humid, with highs consistently around ninety and frequent afternoon thunderstorms from June through August. The lake, splash pad, and pool at Little Ocmulgee draw heavy family traffic, so reserve early for summer weekends and the July 4 week. Mosquitoes, gnats, and fire ants are active, so plan for repellent and screened shelter. Winter is mild, with highs typically in the upper fifties to low sixties and overnight lows in the forties. Hard freezes are brief. Camping remains open year-round, and late winter is a popular window for hiking and lake fishing before the crowds return.

The Little Ocmulgee campground has 54 sites set among oak trees and Spanish moss, with a mix of pull-through and back-in spots and 30/50 amp electrical hookups. Some sites have full hookups including sewer, others are water and electric only, and a dump station is on-site. The campground is big-rig friendly and can accommodate larger RVs, though sites are closely spaced and uneven terrain means a few need leveling boards. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, laundry, a camp store, and picnic shelters. Cable TV hookups are available at some sites. Pets are welcome on leash but are not allowed on the swim beach or inside buildings. Private parks in the surrounding countryside tend to be smaller and quieter, with gravel or grass pads and rural surroundings. Bring bug spray, sun protection, and a leveling kit.
