Campgrounds and RV parks near Claxton, GA

Claxton sits in southeast Georgia's Evans County, roughly an hour inland from Savannah along U.S. 280 and within easy reach of I-16. The area is flat pine-and-farmland country crossed by the Canoochee and Ohoopee rivers, and the campground mix reflects that: a handful of private RV parks off the interstate, one state park nearby, and a river-access campground to the west. Jack Hill State Park, in Reidsville about 20 miles south, is a compact 29-site campground alongside a small lake where campers regularly spot alligators, and it operates year-round with a modern bathhouse. Private options closer to the interstate include Beaver Run RV Park and Campground, off I-16 near Metter about 14 miles from Claxton with full hook-ups, cable, and Wi-Fi, plus Parkwood RV Park and Cottages near Statesboro and Hidden Forest RV Club to the south. For a river-focused stay, Ohoopee River Campground in the Lyons area offers RV sites and shaded tent sites near the water. Savannah, Tybee Island, and the Georgia coast are all inside a day-trip radius.

For Jack Hill State Park, reservations go through the Georgia State Parks system. Non-residents can book up to 13 months in advance, and Georgia residents may book up to 14 months in advance, either online at GaStateParks.org or by phone at 1-800-864-7275. A 50 percent deposit confirms most overnight reservations booked 15 or more days out, with the balance due at check-in; reservations booked 14 days or fewer require payment in full. A daily ParkPass is required for all vehicles and is separate from the reservation, and camping is limited to 14 consecutive days at any one park. Private parks book directly through their own websites or through platforms such as Campspot. Holiday weekends at Beaver Run RV Park and Campground, Parkwood RV Park and Cottages, Ohoopee River Campground, and Hidden Forest RV Club fill first, so reserve spring and fall weekends several weeks out.
