Campgrounds and RV parks near Collins, GA

Water recreation is the main draw. At Jack Hill State Park, families can fish the lake from the docks, rent aqua cycles, kayaks, or fishing boats in warmer months, and watch for beaver dams from the observation deck. The park also has a splash pad open Friday through Sunday in season, mini golf, FootGolf, and the 18-hole Brazell's Creek Golf Course on site. The Ohoopee River, known for its white sand banks and tea-colored water, is popular for paddling and swimming. The wider region is part of Georgia's Wiregrass and Woodpecker Trails, with birding, cycling routes, and small-town stops. Vidalia, about 20 minutes west, is the center of the sweet onion growing region and hosts the Vidalia Onion Festival each spring.

Southeast Georgia has a humid subtropical climate with short, mild winters and hot, humid summers. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping, with daytime highs commonly in the 70s and low 80s and lower humidity. Wildflowers and mild evenings make March through May a strong shoulder season, and October and November bring cooler nights with fewer bugs. Summer is warm and wet, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Heat indices routinely climb into the 90s and higher, so sites with shade and 50-amp service for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in September, and remnants of tropical systems have caused closures and storm damage at parks in the region. Winter camping is viable in this area. Freezes occur but are usually brief, and campgrounds generally stay open year-round, though some seasonal amenities like the splash pad and boat rentals close from late fall through early spring.

Terrain is flat and sandy under tall pines, so most sites are easy to level and pull into. At Jack Hill State Park, the campground has 29 sites that accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to about 60 feet, with a bathhouse offering restrooms, hot showers, and coin-operated laundry. A dump station serves the campground, and five sites have full hookups. Expect mosquitoes and biting flies in the warmer months, and take standard precautions in areas with alligators near lakes and slow-moving rivers. Cell coverage is generally usable but can be spotty at more remote private parks. Reidsville and Vidalia both have grocery stores, fuel, and hardware within a short drive, so restocking mid-trip is straightforward.
