Campgrounds and RV parks near Georgetown, GA

Fishing drives most trips. Lake Eufaula is billed as the Bass Capital of the World, and the Chattahoochee River lakes hold largemouth bass, white bass, hybrids, crappie, channel catfish and bream. Boat ramps, fish-cleaning stations and marinas are spread across both shorelines. Off the water, Providence Canyon State Park is a popular hiking destination that many campers drive over to visit from Florence Marina State Park. Eufaula itself has more than twenty structures and districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, giving families a rain-day option. Wildlife viewing is strong year-round. Lakepoint is a stop on Alabama's Wiregrass Birding Trail, with possible American alligator sightings and various songbirds and raptors including osprey. The Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive north of town.

Most campgrounds in the Eufaula area are open year-round, though some Corps of Engineers sites operate on shorter seasons in the cooler months. Summer brings hot, humid conditions with daytime highs regularly in the low 90s Fahrenheit, while winters are generally mild. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for tent campers and families with kids. Spring bass fishing peaks from March through May, and reservations at Lakepoint State Park and the Corps campgrounds tighten quickly on weekends. Summer holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day sell out earliest, so book several months ahead if the trip is tied to a specific date. Winter is the quietest season. Maximum stay for camping at Alabama State Parks is 14 nights, with 31 nights allowed November 1 to March 31 at select parks, which makes the shoulder months attractive for longer-stay visitors. Biting insects thin out from late fall through early spring, a real consideration in this part of southwest Georgia.

Corps campgrounds around the lake generally offer water and electric hookups, flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, dump stations and boat ramps, with playgrounds in the family loops. Lakepoint's modern campground features 192 improved campsites, with pull-through sites offering water, electricity and sewage in Deer Court, water and electricity in Barbour and Clark loops, and tent camping welcome. Florence Marina offers full hook-up RV sites along with cottages, efficiency units, a marina with boat slips, fish-cleaning stations, boat ramps, a playground and mini golf. Sites are generally shaded and level. Two local realities to plan around: cell service can be spotty around the state parks, and the area sits below the gnat line, so gnats and biting midges can be intense, particularly around dusk in warm months. Alligators have been reported in the area, so exercise caution near the water. Pack repellent and screen tents.
