Campgrounds and RV parks near Glenwood, GA

Most trip planning here revolves around Little Ocmulgee State Park. The park offers a variety of outdoor recreation including golf, tennis, boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, and picnicking, and it runs the Wallace Adams Golf Course on site. A hiking trail with a boardwalk through cypress trees is a main on-foot draw, with good chances of spotting gopher tortoises and songbirds. Families with kids will find a splash pad, pool, playgrounds, and a lakeside beach open in the warm months. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and chain pickerel from the dock or by boat. Beyond the park, the surrounding towns of McRae-Helena, Alamo, and Mount Vernon offer small-town dining and grocery runs, and the Ocmulgee and Altamaha river corridors are within reach for paddling day trips.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Georgia. From March through May, daytime highs climb from the mid 60s into the mid 80s Fahrenheit, wildflowers bloom, and bass fishing on the park's lake is at its best. October and November bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier hiking on the park's swamp boardwalk and trail network. Summer is hot and humid. July and August average highs near 90 Fahrenheit, with high heat index values, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy mosquito and ant activity in shaded campsites. The Atlantic hurricane season peaks in August and September, and inland Georgia can still see tropical rainfall and wind from landfalling storms. Winter is mild by North American standards. Highs typically sit in the upper 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit with cool nights and occasional freezes. Winter high temperatures average in the 50s, lows average in the mid to lower 30s, and lows of 32 degrees or lower can be expected on 50 to 70 days in this part of the state. It remains a comfortable time to camp, though the beach and splash pad at the state park are closed.

Campsites at Little Ocmulgee sit amidst oak trees and Spanish moss, and the campground features 54 campsites for pitching tents, securing trailers, and parking RVs. The forested campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections, and sites are closely spaced with minimal barriers between them, with uneven terrain that means some spots require leveling boards. A single dump station serves the loop, which creates backups during busy checkout times. Expect shade, humidity, and insects in warm months. Mosquito repellent and awning bug screens are worth packing from late spring through early fall. Cell reception in the Glenwood area is generally usable on major carriers, though it can be spotty inside the park. The smaller private parks in the area tend toward gravel or grass pads, quiet settings, and limited amenities compared to a full resort. Call ahead to confirm big-rig access and hookup type.
