Campgrounds and RV parks near Milan, GA

At Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge, families get a lot in one stop. A dam creates a 256-acre lake and marsh for fishing, swimming, and canoeing, and the park has a splash pad and pool, plus a golf course that draws repeat visitors. A 2.6-mile hiking trail makes its way through the park for shorter outings. At General Coffee State Park, the pull is agricultural and equestrian. Heritage Farm features log cabins, a corn crib, tobacco barn, cane mill and other exhibits, and children enjoy feeding the park's farm animals, which usually include goats, sheep, chickens, pigs and donkeys. The park offers 13.4 miles of equestrian trails, and a small fee is charged for use of horse trails and proof of negative Coggins test is required on all horses.

South-central Georgia has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters, warm springs, hot summers, and long shoulder seasons. Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel: daytime highs sit in a comfortable range, humidity drops off, and mosquito pressure eases. Wildflowers and bird activity peak in April and May, while October brings clearer skies and cooler nights that suit campfire evenings. Summer is peak family-travel season and also peak heat. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and lake swimming, splash pads, and shaded pine campgrounds become important. Book weekends well ahead, since state-park sites at Little Ocmulgee and General Coffee fill quickly. Winter is quiet and often overlooked. Days are frequently in the 50s and 60s, freezes are brief, and reservations are available year-round, and pets are permitted throughout the facility at Little Ocmulgee. Anglers target bass and crappie on the lakes, and campgrounds see far less pressure than in warmer months.

At Little Ocmulgee, the forested campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections, sites are closely spaced with minimal barriers between them, and the uneven terrain means some spots require leveling boards. The abundant tree cover provides shade throughout the campground, though several reviewers mention ant problems during warmer months. At General Coffee, the campground has 50 RV and tent sites equipped with water and 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups, a few sites (mostly host sites) feature sewer hookups as well, and sites are pull through with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Equestrian sites use a communal water spigot rather than site-side water, and hitching posts are provided while stables are not. Private parks in the region tend to be smaller, quieter, and geared toward longer stays.
