Campgrounds and RV parks near Pavo, GA

Water recreation is the main draw. At Reed Bingham State Park, the 375-acre lake is popular with boaters and skiers, fishing for bass, crappie, catfish and bream is excellent, and paddlers can rent canoes and kayaks to explore the lake lined with water lilies and tupelo trees. A paddle-in island pioneer campsite accessible by canoe or kayak is also available for group primitive camping. On land, a nature trail passes through baldcypress swamp, pitcher-plant bog, and sandhill habitat, and visitors usually see abundant wildlife, including gopher tortoises, yellow-bellied sliders, and indigo snakes. Downtown Thomasville and Moultrie offer historic squares, restaurants, and small museums that work well as half-day trips from a campsite.

South Georgia has a long camping season. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel: daytime highs are mild, humidity is manageable, and mosquitoes are less aggressive than in midsummer. Spring wildflowers along the Coastal Plains trails and cooler evenings on the lake make March through May especially popular with families. Summer is hot, humid, and thunderstorm-prone, with afternoon storms common from June into August. The air can feel uncomfortably humid during the summer months from June to September, so sites with electric hookups for air conditioning are strongly recommended. Late summer and early fall also fall within Atlantic hurricane season, and inland south Georgia can still see heavy rain and wind from tropical systems. Winter is the quiet season. Freezes occur but are usually brief, and many snowbird travelers use the Pavo corridor as a stopover between the Midwest and Florida. Reed Bingham remains open year-round with restoration in progress following Hurricane Helene; most trails have reopened and damaged boardwalk sections remain closed.

Expect flat, shaded, coastal-plain sites with pine and live-oak canopy and sandy soil. At Reed Bingham, the campground has 46 tent, trailer, and RV sites across two loops, with Loop 1 providing water and electric hookups, Loop 2 adding sewer connections with 50-amp service, and a dump station on-site. Amenities include clean bathhouses with showers, laundry facilities in Loop 2, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site, and park facilities include boat ramps, docks, a playground, a sand beach, and a miniature-golf course. Private RV parks nearby lean toward pull-through, full-hookup sites geared to travelers and long-stay guests, with basic laundry and Wi-Fi. Cell coverage is generally good along the US-19 and I-75 corridors and spottier on back roads.
