Campgrounds and RV parks near Aiea, HI

The Aiea area itself is close to Pearl Harbor's historic sites, the Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area ridge trails, and Honolulu's beaches and markets. Most RV travelers pair a day in town with a night out on the coast. Camp Mokule‘ia sits on the north shore of Oahu, only steps from warm Hawaiian waters where dolphins and sea turtles may be spotted, and the camp offers safe snorkeling and hiking through a tropical forest preserve. The beach is well suited to stand-up paddling, and the surrounding coast is known for rock climbing. Further afield, the windward coast offers Kualoa's mountain views, and Ka‘ena Point provides a coastal hike out to Oahu's western tip.

Oahu is a year-round camping destination, but conditions shift noticeably between the wet season and dry season. Climate normals from the National Weather Service Honolulu office, measured at Honolulu International Airport, cover a recent thirty-year period. Winter months, roughly November through March, bring the bulk of the rain, cooler nights, and larger surf on the North Shore. The north shore sees massive winter swells that draw top surfers to Pipeline and Waimea Bay, humpback whale watching peaks as whales migrate to Hawaiian waters to calve, and high surf warnings can close north-facing beaches to swimming. This is prime whale season but also the wettest period for tent-style camping. Summer and early fall are drier and hotter, with steady trade winds. The UV index reaches extreme levels, so sun protection is not optional. Late summer through fall also carries the highest hurricane risk for the central Pacific, worth checking before locking in dates.

Public campgrounds on Oahu are generally simple. Expect restrooms, cold-water showers, picnic tables, and sometimes fire pits, but not sewer, water, or electric hookups suited to larger RVs. County and state park sites open only a limited window ahead and fill fast, especially weekends. At Camp Mokule‘ia, campers use a hot water shower house, cold water sinks, and campfire pits. The site's wood and fabric tentalos are built on raised platforms, sleep up to four people, and sit close to the beach. The drive out Farrington Highway narrows past the last gas station and strip mall as the road heads toward the coast, so stock groceries, water, and fuel before leaving the Honolulu-Aiea corridor.
