Campgrounds and RV parks near Notus, ID

Lake Lowell, inside the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, is the primary recreation hub. The reservoir covers roughly 9,000 acres with 28 miles of shoreline and is managed jointly by the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The refuge has more than 10 miles of trails, and available fish species include rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, yellow perch, bluegill, and bullhead and channel catfish. The Sunnyslope Wine Trail south of Caldwell is a popular half-day loop for adults, with tasting rooms scattered among orchards along the Snake River. Families often combine a refuge visit with the Caldwell greenbelt, Indian Creek Plaza in downtown Caldwell, or a drive south to the Snake River canyon. About an hour from Caldwell, the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area holds the densest population of nesting birds of prey in North America, including hawks, owls, eagles, and falcons.

The Treasure Valley has a cold semi-arid climate. In the Caldwell area, summers are hot, dry, and mostly clear, and winters are cold, snowy, and partly cloudy. Late spring brings green farmland and comfortable temperatures, while early fall lines up with wine harvest and cooler evenings, making May to mid-June and September to mid-October the most comfortable travel windows. Summer is the peak RV season. Days are hot and dry, boat ramps at Lake Lowell are busy, and reservations at private parks in Caldwell and Nampa fill quickly around holiday weekends. Motorized and non-motorized boating on Lake Lowell is allowed from April 15 through September 30, with the lake closed to recreational boating outside that window to protect migrating and wintering wildlife. Winter is quiet. Snow is possible, some private parks reduce services, and much of the refuge shoreline shifts to wildlife-only use. Human-powered boats are allowed within 200 yards of the Upper and Lower Dams between October 1 and April 14, while the rest of the lake is set aside for wintering birds.

Expect a rural, agricultural setting. Notus itself is small, so groceries, fuel, propane, RV supplies, and dump stations are easier to find in Caldwell or Nampa a few miles east. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the valley, and most private parks in the area offer 30- and 50-amp hookups, with pull-thru sites and Wi-Fi commonly available. Summer afternoons are hot and shade at RV sites varies, so plan for awnings and extra water. Farm traffic, irrigation ditches, and the occasional feedlot are part of the landscape. Mosquitoes can be active near Lake Lowell and the Boise River in early summer. Traffic on I-84 through Caldwell and Nampa is heaviest at commuter times, which matters when timing arrivals with big rigs.
