Campgrounds and RV parks near Augusta, IL

Augusta sits in Hancock County in west-central Illinois, roughly halfway between Quincy and Macomb and about a half-hour drive east of the Mississippi River. The surrounding landscape is rolling farmland cut by wooded creek valleys, which makes for quiet rural camping rather than resort-style RV parks. Most sites within an hour of town are state-run fish and wildlife areas with basic hookups, plus a handful of private and municipal campgrounds. RV renters typically base out of one of five nearby options. Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area sits closest to Augusta, followed by Carthage Campground, with Twisted Oaks - Argyle Lake State Park and Pine Grove - Siloam Springs State Park within an easy drive to the north and south. Oak Wood Acres Campground rounds out the local options as a private alternative. Expect wooded, spread-out sites at the state parks and simpler open-field layouts at the municipal and private grounds. Cell service is workable but not universal, so download maps before leaving Augusta.

Illinois state park sites, including Twisted Oaks - Argyle Lake State Park, Pine Grove - Siloam Springs State Park and Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area, are reserved through the Illinois DNR system at ExploreMoreIL. Campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, and reservations must be made three days before the campsite is needed. Most campsites can be reserved from May 1 through October 31, though some parks accept reservations year-round. Carthage Campground is run locally and is typically booked directly through the city or on arrival, depending on season. Oak Wood Acres Campground is private and takes reservations directly by phone or through its website. For holiday weekends, book state park electric sites several weeks out. Most campgrounds have first-come, first-served sites, so contact the park for availability.
