Camping near Barry, Illinois
Barry sits in Pike County in west-central Illinois, roughly a dozen miles east of the Mississippi River and within easy reach of both Illinois and Missouri campgrounds. The town works well as a base for RV travellers exploring the Great River Road, the wooded ridges of Pike and Adams counties, and the historic river town of Hannibal, Missouri, about a half-hour drive west.
Options within an hour of Barry range from full-service state park camping to family resorts and riverfront marinas. Siloam Springs offers 86 Class A and 18 Class B camp sites featuring restrooms and electricity, plus four hike-in backpack campsites, three horse-ride/hike-in sites, and a special group campground. Pine Grove is the park's main developed RV loop.
Closer to town, Two Rivers Marina and Campground sits on the Mississippi at Rockport, and On The Way RV Park provides a straightforward overnight stop. Families often head for Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Pine Lakes, while Mark Twain Cave and Campground pairs RV sites with cave tours just south of Hannibal.
Things to do near Barry
The Mississippi River corridor drives most trip planning. Two Rivers Marina and Campground puts boaters directly on the water, and the surrounding Pike County backroads are popular for birding, especially bald eagle viewing in winter. Anglers target the river itself along with stocked lakes at nearby state parks.
Siloam Springs has about 12 miles of scenic hiking trails that go from valleys to flatlands, including a combination 6-mile hiking and backpacking trail. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: Pine Lakes have on-site pools and organized activities.
Across the river, the Mark Twain Cave Complex is home to two National Landmarks, and its popular 60-minute guided tour walks visitors through the labyrinth that inspired The Adventures of Tom Sawyer on an easy, electrically lit path.
