Campgrounds and RV parks near Brooklyn, IL

The main draw is proximity to St. Louis. From riverside RV parks, the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, the City Museum, and Forest Park are all a short drive across the Mississippi. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park is within walking distance of the MetroLink light rail, which connects directly to downtown attractions. On the Illinois side, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site preserves the largest pre-Columbian earthworks north of Mexico and is an easy family stop. Horseshoe Lake State Park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. The park also runs numerous hunting programs from September through February. The adjacent casino at DraftKings at Casino Queen adds gaming and multiple on-site dining options for adults staying overnight.

The Brooklyn area has a humid continental climate with hot, muggy summers and cold winters. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild days and lower humidity. Summer brings intense heat and frequent thunderstorms, and campgrounds near St. Louis attractions fill quickly around Cardinals home stands, holiday weekends, and major events. Spring is the wettest stretch, with May typically the rainiest month due to clashing air masses and afternoon thunderstorms that continue into summer. River-bottom parks can see standing water after heavy storms, so travelers should watch flood advisories along the Mississippi. State-park camping is seasonal. The Horseshoe Lake State Park campground is open from May 1 to September 30, campers can stay a maximum of 7 days in a 30-day period, and the park does not take reservations for individual camping. Private RV parks in the metro area typically stay open longer or year-round, giving cold-weather visitors a reliable option.

Most RV parks in the immediate Brooklyn and East St. Louis area are urban, paved, and utility-focused rather than scenic. At DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park, sites are full hookup on a primarily paved surface with electricity, water, and sewer connections, the park is secured with a gated entry system requiring a passcode, and facilities include clean restrooms with showers, a dog walking area along the perimeter, and a small children's play area. Train noise from adjacent rail lines is common. Cahokia RV Parque leans family-friendly with a pool, laundry, and an on-site restaurant, though sites can be tight. Horseshoe Lake State Park is a different experience entirely. There are no showers or hookups at the campground, and primitive class C camping is available from May 1 through September 30. Bring water for longer needs, and expect vault toilets and a dump station only.
